Where exactly are these free programs?

    Be specific.

Probably some byzantine disjointed well hidden morass designed by Republicans to deter utilization!

We need a one stop education Leviathan for everything top to bottom loaded to the gills with tax cash!

I'm sure being unaware is part of it. Also, the target is low income individuals who have personal problems keeping them from being able to show up regularly or persevere. My two step-daughters got a grant and went to cosmetology school run by a local beauty shop. They both dropped out because some people are just not very good at finishing anything (Beauty School Dropout). They go from job to job and never make much money.

In my area there are are a lot of high-paying plant jobs and one of the biggest problems in hiring enough people to fill those jobs is being able to pass the drug test.

The shortage of truck drivers has drawn a number of Sikhs who are now taking those jobs.

Some of the training programs are short-term pork barrel projects designed to allow members of Congress to target money to their districts. They may not be a real need or interest for training, for example, welders in a particular area and the project might not get enough students to run the program (which leads to some real abuses).

In almost every city in America. Look at the left-hand column of this Department of Labor website. It includes adult training programs, American Job Centers, Apprenticeships, dislocated workers, Indians and Native American programs, Job Corps, migrant and seasonal farm workers, people with disabilities, safety and health, seniors, trade act programs, veterans, and youth programs.

    https://www.dol.gov/general/topic/training

And these are just the Department of Labor programs and does not include all the state and local programs or the 1,100 community colleges (many with multiple campuses).

    Hello cawacko,

    A good question.

We know exactly what capitalism is going to do. It's going to eliminate those jobs. And by automating many tasks there will be less need for workers. There will not be enough well-paying jobs for everyone. Heck. There aren't enough right now. But that is only going to become more extreme.

What is the plan that conservatives have to promote the general welfare in such a condition? Easy. Blame the poor! Tell them they made bad choices in life. Offer them a 'non-job,' working 14 hours a week (on call, the rest, for no pay) so you can claim they don't qualify for unemployment, and they don't count in the unemployment rate. Then take away any government assistance they may have been receiving even though it is nowhere near enough to balance the budget after your GIANT tax cut for the rich.

What is the progressive plan to promote the general welfare? Simple Tax the super-rich so much that the government not only pays for itself, it can pay a Universal Basic Income to every person. Make it enough so that they can live comfortably, but certainly not well off. Higher Wealth is so great in the USA the richest can afford that easily and still be richer than everybody else. And plus, as labor is eliminated by Artificial Intelligence, AI, the machines which will replace labor will be so initially expensive only the richest and largest corporations will be able to afford them. But those machines will quickly pay for themselves and make the richest even richer. Those are the riches that will pay the UBI. And still have plenty left over for the titans of capitalism, who will still be richer than everybody else.

In the future, if people want to work and earn additional wealth, they will be free to. But they won't have to. And THAT will be a far greater America than what we have today, or what Trump fans think makes the country great. It will be awesome. To have the gift of life with total freedom and not be forced to give the better part of your life just to pay for existence. Imagine how advanced humans will become freed from the burden of working! The arts will explode. And I have a feeling a lot of other areas will advance greatly. People who like to make their houses and properties look nice will have all the time in the world to do so. Cars will be cleaner. Streets cleaner and nicer. Our cities will LOOK better. Only possible with socialism. Capitalism is taking us the other way.

We have *so* got to get the balance between the two correct.

    Hello Flash,

--Almost 84,000 openings for software developers are on the books.

--there is a gap of approximately 46,000 between web developer job postings and hires.

--Engineering jobs pay well and are pretty secure, and there are roughly 47,000 unfilled positions out there, according to estimates.

    --IT and computer administration--51,000

--There are nearly 300,000 unique job postings for nurses going up every month

    https://www.cheatsheet.com/money-car...mployees.html/

Nobody is going to get a good paying job unless they acquire some education, skill, or experience to qualify for them.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the mean hourly wage is $24.98.
The reason those jobs remain unfilled is because they are undesirable jobs. Good jobs don't go unfilled. The best jobs never even get listed. And the good ones often get listed as a matter of formality even though the employer already has someone in mind for the position, they simply need to go through the motions to satisfy investors. The best jobs are filled by word of mouth. Or somebody worked in a related position and had their eye on the job for years, making sure they are the best qualified for it. Then when the time comes they move right into it.

If a job has to get listed out to the general public it is not a very desirable job. Nurse? They work their butts off. I know one who had to quit because the work was so demanding and stressful it was giving her high blood pressure and back pain. And she worked for a supervisor who made her life hell. Engineer? Guess which ones are open. Drilling rig. That's a job where ya don't get to go home at night. You'll be gone for weeks when you go to work. And it might be in some remote location where you can't leave the rig. 24-7 you'll be there with all the same people. Oh, and you'll be in a dangerous job. Truck driver? That's one of the most dangerous jobs in America. 30,000 people die every year on our highways. Very stressful job. Drivers are *so* courteous, you know. The highway is a 'friendly' place, yeah, right. And how long a career could that be with AI looming to eliminate drivers?

In total, a few hundred thousand well-paying jobs have been identified, and it's obvious why these lousy jobs remain unfilled. And that pales in comparison to the 44 million Americans who need well-paying jobs.

Suppose every single poor person took your advice, got that training, got those great jobs. Awesome, eh? Great for them!

Now, who is going to do the low paying jobs they left? Immigrants?

Blaming the poor is no solution.

Maybe they don't want a bad back from leaning over a car hood all day, or they don't want repetitive motion injury from doing a simple physical effort over and over all day, or they don't want to work at night when the openings are available? Most people do like to be awake in the daytime and sleep at night.

Naturally! That makes sense. How logical. American capitalism creates such undesirable work with such unacceptable pay for lousy jobs that only immigrants will take it. This gets greedy corporations more bang for the labor buck, and leaves America in the lurch. But what does capitalism care about society? It doesn't. Hence, why we need socialism mixed in with our capitalism.
