The Most Politically Intolerant Americans Tend To Be Urban, Highly Educated Whites, Survey Shows
"Here's a sentence that may surprise many readers: "In general, the most politically intolerant Americans… tend to be whiter, more highly educated, older, more urban, and more partisan themselves."
That's according to a recent article in The Atlantic, which cites the results of a survey conducted by the polling firm PredictWise. The authors were interested in gauging political intolerance—where in the U.S. are people more likely to disassociate from members of the opposite political party?—and were able to assemble a county-by-county index of American intolerance based on poll results."

Not surprising to me. I've lost count of the Democrat friends that I have lost after Trump was elected. Good riddance.

They're the ones that believe they're so intellectually superior they can't understand why others don't automatically accept what they say.
I haven't lost any friends, most agree with me politically (the ones I talk politics with). My GF is a Dem, as is her family but we never talk politics (probably why she's still here). I only have one friend (he's a past co-worker) who is a die-hard liberal, he was a master craftsman who I have respect for. Every time we talk, he throws a political statement, but I always change the subject and he gets the message I have no interest in discussing politics with him. It's all good.
Common sense is not a gift, it's a punishment because you have to deal with everyone who doesn't have it.
I first met my elderly neighbor during The Obama, and we never talked politics. As soon as Trump was elected he went nutty and would go on an on with the latest CNN talking points. I can't refute his points because he won't listen to reason. After a few minutes I ask him, "Jerry, where does this hate that you express come from?" That ends the conversation.
His son is a turbo-lib and we got in an argument over Kav's appointment when his mother posted on FB. I nailed him with facts and of course he came back with a sexualized insult. My adult daughter saw it and blasted him for it good. He then told his mother, in a post no less, to block the two of us. And she did.
Jerry used to wander over while I was in the garage working on a car or another project and give me useless instructions on how to do my task, and I enjoyed the banter. He would look around for something to sit on and usually end up leaning on a bench. Last year I bought a nice stool for him to sit on and he hasn't been back since. Obviously it was the Kav incident.
I walk over occasionally and invite myself in and the two of them are pleasant enough but not much else.

A lie doesn't become the truth, wrong doesn't become right, and evil doesn't become good just because it is accepted by a majority.

Being a Republican in San Francisco this is kind of right up my alley. In the real world I generally don't speak politics with people or when I do it's more on a local or state level but I don't make it a point to announce my political party affiliation. But I've had multiple experiences in SF of people finding out I'm a Republican and looking at me like I'm from another planet and you can just see them judging. It's really kind of interesting.
