Default Barr disputes key inspector general finding about FBI’s Russia investigation

Attorney General William P. Barr has told associates he disagrees with the Justice Department’s inspector general on one of the key findings in an upcoming report — that the FBI had enough information in July 2016 to justify launching an investigation into members of the Trump campaign, according to people familiar with the matter.

The Justice Department’s inspector general, Michael Horowitz, is due to release his long-awaited findings in a week, but behind the scenes at the Justice Department, disagreement has surfaced about one of Horowitz’s central conclusions on the origins of the Russia investigation. The discord could be the prelude to a major fissure within federal law enforcement on the controversial question of investigating a presidential campaign.

Barr has not been swayed by Horowitz’s rationale for concluding the FBI had sufficient basis to open an investigation on July 31, 2016, these people said.

It’s not yet clear how Barr plans to make his objection to Horowitz’s conclusion known. The inspector general report, currently in draft form, is being finalized after input from various witnesses and offices that were scrutinized by the inspector general. Barr or a senior Justice Department official could submit a formal letter as part of that process, which would then be included in the final report. It is standard practice for every inspector general report to include a written response from the department. Barr could forgo a written rebuttal on that specific point and just publicly state his concerns.

Spokespeople for the Justice Department, the inspector general and the FBI all declined to comment.

According TO PEOPLE FAMILIAR? Really? Where do THESE PEOPLE reside....next door to Mr./Mrs. Anonymous?

This source should give one all the knowledge that is necessary to make a well informed judgment. These sourceless articles will be a daily event until the actual release of the FISA report. This is simply a method of attempting to "get out front" of the bad news coming down the pike in putting their own propaganda spin on it.

Reality: IG Horowitz has already referred James Comey to the DOJ for criminal indictment. Ever wonder why Barr refused to indict after the Comey IG REPORT? IG Horowitz will make more criminal referrals …...and they will not end up in the DC area for trail. Think Huber....think Utah for an unbiased jury pool.

Another inconvenient truth: The people reading this made up trash know about as much of what the upcoming IG report contains than does the Washington compost as the report has not been released to the public. The left never provides a source the way a real journalist does....providing links, names etc., You will not see this from any of the Mocking Bird Marxist Media outlets....its always UNKOWN, UNCONFIRMED sources.

Only Barr disagrees about the findings that enough Russian interference was discovered that it should have been made public in the summer 2016. No major fissure exists or will exist.

    Barr should resign, in disgrace.

Under the sketchy circumstances, someone needed to go to Europe to check things out—and Barr sent himself and Durham, himself.

Which was kind of odd and probably unprecedented. It raises the question of whether they trust some people. Or maybe they thought it was important enough they needed to find some things out for themselves. Or maybe the presence a US Cabinet member might ‘facilitate’ some things in Europe.

At any rate, we will all find some things out sooner or later and I’ll make no predictions. Except to say this: if ‘this is it’, ‘it’ will be historic.

Because he puts extreme partisanship before his duty to serve the Constitution, Barr should resign.

The Durham report will be a bigger flop for Barr, a 'historic' flop.

I hope this keeps going on. It is pretty funny to see Trumpcucks waiting for evidence that justifies their Fascism, yet it never comes.

    How it looks from London

The attorney general is focusing on the theory, aired on far-right conspiracy sites and raised by Trump and Giuliani, that Ukraine framed Vladimir Putin over the US election in a complex triple-cross operation.

Trump and Barr have also been asking foreign governments for help in investigating the FBI, CIA and Mueller investigators. The US president has called on the Australian prime minister Scott Morrison for assistance, while the attorney general has been on similar missions to the UK and Italy.

And the information being requested has left allies astonished. One British official with knowledge of Barr’s wish list presented to London commented “it is like nothing we have come across before, they are basically asking, in quite robust terms, for help in doing a hatchet job on their own intelligence services”.
