We had a couple of species of equus in North America; they originated on this continent and spread to Asia and Europe via the same land bridge that humans used, millions of years before humans evolved. They went extinct long ago. There's no evidence that they were ever domesticated by early North American people.

    True but not correct.

Groups are usually described as indigenous when they maintain traditions or other aspects of an early culture that is associated with a given region. Not all indigenous peoples share this characteristic, as many have adopted substantial elements of a colonizing culture, such as dress, religion or language.

In real life, I personally know exactly zero liberals who talk about, let alone stress about, what indigenous people should be called

In principal , my philosophy is to let people self-identify however they want. Unless they are lying. You would be surprised how many weirdos on the interwebs pretend to be black, pretend to be rich, or pretend to be former Navy Seals!

Why do silly threads like this one generate so much comment. I'm going to be charitable and not answer but rather let you ponder that thought.

So the complaint that Native Americans are the only indigenous people of the US, is incorrect; according to your post.

Nope didn't say that. Man as we know it started in Africa and slowly migrated around the world. Thus it is correct to say Native Americans migrated here thus immigrated is the wrong word to use. Thanks for playing.

If one lumps all Native American as one group then yes we are the only indigenous people in the US. However we are all in separate tribes with different beliefs and customs so in truth each tribe is a separate indigenous US people.

Very true. The trend among those with more legal minds now is to refer to one's tribal group as "nation" which bears more weight in the mind than does the word "tribe." "Tribe" has the connotation of primitive, backwards, not modern, even clannish in a negative way.
