Throughout history, great speeches have challenged people to rise above self-interest to do what is noble and right. Great speakers have used their positions or their influence to "inspire and unite people during times of struggle"; they have "met moments of great adversity with words both vigorous and poignant, giving voice to the challenges of their time." The "impact on history" of such speakers "will be determined in the future." Reasonable people, reading Barr's carefully constructed arguments for religious freedom and faithful originalists' interpretation of the Constitution, would be compelled and motivated by Barr's words.

XXXXX

The speeches were one-two punches against the Democrat's (1) attacks on religious freedom that have resulted in cultural disintegration and (2) attacks on the Constitution that have resulted in political chaos.

Attorney General Barr Stands athwart History
By Janice Shaw Crouse

Miss Crouse’s piece set me to thinking about about putting the best five speeches advocating individual liberties next to the five speeches liberals consider game changers.

Frankly, I could not remember one speech that says a profound philosophical truth about collectivism. At best, Socialist/Communist speeches generally contain one or two touchy-feely phrase that warp souls rather than inspire all of mankind.

Books are much worse than speeches. Every novel and non-fiction book written about the joys of Communism cunningly say that death and destruction are necessary to lead mankind to a big government Utopia. Every book written about Christianity elaborates on the philosophy found in the Bible. Every book written about Socialism/Communism justifies the death and destruction found in:

NOTE: The same people who preach a big government Utopia consider the Garden of Eden a biblical fantasy.

Billions of sentences uttered by talking heads, as well as spoken in the dialogue of countless television shows, do not express one memorable thought that advances civilization. Indeed, much of the dialogue in lawyer shows make collectivist lies appear to be universal truths. The lies are repeated in show after show. The political lies told in Law & Order for 20 years —— plus reruns and spinoffs —— influence millions of of fools, shut-ins and lonely people.

Finally, lonely people are the easiest pickings for every pathetic lie they hear. Environmental lies captured the hearts and minds of more lonely true believers than did EQUALITY.

Democrats determined to abolish an instrument of freedom ——the U.S. Constitution —— scream the loudest for equality. The thing that angers Democrats the most is Americans not dropping to their knees and thanking Socialists for “equality.” Eric hoffer saw the lie inherent in political equality long before liberal freaks made equality their first commandment.

Where freedom is real, equality is the passion of the masses. Where equality is real, freedom is the passion of a small minority. Eric Hoffer

They who clamor loudest for freedom are often the ones least likely to be happy in a free society. The frustrated, oppressed by their shortcomings, blame their failure on existing restraints. Actually, their innermost desire is for an end to the "free for all." They want to eliminate free competition and the ruthless testing to which the individual is continually subjected in a free society. Eric Hoffer

Unless a man has talents to make something of himself, freedom is an irksome burden. Of what avail is freedom to choose if the self be ineffectual? We join a mass movement to escape individual responsibility, or, in the words of the ardent young Nazi, "to be free from freedom." It was not sheer hypocrisy when the rank-and-file Nazis declared themselves not guilty of all the enormities they had committed. They considered themselves cheated and maligned when made to shoulder responsibility for obeying orders. Had they not joined the Nazi movement in order to be free from responsibility? Eric Hoffer

Those who see their lives as spoiled and wasted crave equality and fraternity more than they do freedom. If they clamor for freedom, it is but freedom to establish equality and uniformity. The passion for equality is partly a passion for anonymity: to be one thread of the many which make up a tunic; one thread not distinguishable from the others. No one can then point us out, measure us against others and expose our inferiority. Eric Hoffer

p.s. See this thread for my take on books:

I am not arguing against “books.” I am arguing against funding fiction with tax dollars. Buy all of the fiction you can afford, but do not force me to contribute to your reading habits.
