United States Foreign Service - Dinasaur that has seen its time?
DINOSAUR! UGH!
Is it time to retire this dinosaur? It was created in the belief that it would be better to have a "professional" core of diplomats rather than "amateurs" who arrived at their post based on connections and donations to campaigns.
The United States Foreign Service consists of over 13,000 professionals. They serve at any of the 265 United States diplomatic missions around the world, including embassies, consulates, and other facilities.
Created in 1924 by the Rogers Act, the Foreign Service combined all consular and diplomatic services of the U.S. government into one administrative unit.
What is apparent based on the historical facts, is that this idea has done NOTHING to improve US diplomacy throughout the world and merely contains a bunch of prima donna's who believe their views on foriegn policy should trump those of a sitting President.
Since it's formation we have had WWII, the Cold War, The Korean War, the Vietnam War....etc etc etc. The failure of diplomacy in the ME is staggering.

We saw a few very serious and dedicated foreign service workers testifying this week. They were very impressive and serious about their work. yeah, let's dump them and put the president's families and friends in to do the jobs of diplomacy.
