nov 13 2019 A California insurance executive who paid $450,000 to get his kids into a prestigious university as fake athletic recruits was hit with a six-month sentence by a federal judge Wednesday, the longest given yet in the college admissions scandal.

Toby MacFarlane, who before the hearing simply asked the court for “leniency” in a sentencing memorandum, used scheme leader Rick Singer’s “side-door” tactics twice across three years for admission of his son and daughter into the University of Southern California.

Prosecutors suggested a sentence of one year and one day for MacFarlane, who was among the first parents to plead guilty in the “Varsity Blues” case in April.

“Two deserving students were deprived of their right to matriculate at USC either as regular students or as student athletes,” federal judge Nathaniel Gorton said, noting he would shift his punishment upwards for MacFarlane’s “deceitful” conduct.

Blacks make up 5% of undergraduate students. USC has a 13% acceptance rate. Take away all black students and your chances of getting in are still less than 20%. What's this kid's GPA and test scores?
