President and businessman at the same time? Donald Trump thinks he can do it.

"In theory I could run my business perfectly and then run the country perfectly. There's never been a case like this,” the president-elect said in a meeting with The New York Times Tuesday,

Trump is right in that he is going into unprecedented territory. The businessman runs a multi-billion dollar empire. But running a business at the same time as ruling a country would raise some serious questions.

Trump previously said that if elected his children would run the business and after the election one of his lawyers said they would run it via a blind trust. But the transition team hasn’t provided any details about the process and in the interview Tuesday Trump didn’t seem to see the urgency in handing over the reins.

Trump says "in theory" he could continue signing checks at his company, but he is "phasing that out now" and giving to his kids.

"I'd assumed that you'd have to set up some type of trust or whatever and you don't," Trump says. But he adds "I would like to do something."

The case was brought by the attorneys general of Washington, D.C., and Maryland, arguing that Trump had violated the domestic and foreign emoluments clauses of the U.S. Constitution by accepting money from state and foreign governments via his Washington hotel and business empire.

“A three-judge panel at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit ruled unanimously that the attorneys general did not have the standing to bring the lawsuit and instructed a lower court to dismiss the lawsuit.

Judge Paul Niemeyer wrote in the opinion: "The District and Maryland's interest in enforcing the Emoluments Clauses is so attenuated and abstract that their prosecution of this case readily provokes the question of whether this action against the President is an appropriate use of the courts, which were created to resolve real cases and controversies between the parties."

Trump was wrong but his greed made him do it. It is a blatant emoluments violation and he did not care. He has been in it for money from day one and this was a pile of cash he could not pass up. The rules and laws are unimportant to Trump. Money is all. He needs to win in 2020 to get a statute of limitations on much of what he has done. He is desperate for that but his greed makes him take chances he should not. He knows no matter what he does the Trumpys will back him. It must have been made obvious to him that he was doing real damage to his 2020 chances.
We elected Cartman to the presidency. That says too much about us. It is not good.
