What I was getting at, is that if you go far enough back in history, the Indigenous people who were "oppressed" by Columbus et al were themselves oppressors of others. Throughout history, more technologically advanced people have oppressed the less technologically advanced. Where to draw the line? Why is Columbus terrible, but the Indigenous people were saints, even though they oppressed others when they had the upper hand?

It's amazing how our view of France bounces around so much. We simply would not have won independence without the French. And the Louisiana Purchase gave us half our nation. But still there is this resentment of the French.
Oh, I see I had something incorrect. Napoleon did not die at the Battle of Waterloo, his great loss which ended his military career. He escaped and was hunted by the Prussian army until he fled to Rochefort where he surrendered to the British. He was then banished to St Helena Island, where he died of poor health.
