Default Mattis pressures for perpetual presence in Syria

I love these warpigs!! when can we leave Syria to Syria and the regional players to deal with?? NEVER!
    https://thehill.com/policy/defense/4...ssure-on-syria

Notice this CRAP about "reconstitution"- conflating it to ISIS in Iraq or AQI or whatever.
ISIS grew because Baghdadi pushed for it, and because only the Iraqi goverment destroyed the army and was alone agaisnt AQI..

Reconstitution is BULLSHIT -it can't happen with Iran and Russia in Syria ( unlike Iraq) -they are not going to allow any caliphate to grow
    ~~

Mattis warned that the region was in "disarray" due to the invasion of Turkish forces and withdrawal of U.S. troops, which he warned would benefit ISIS forces thought to be hiding in the region as well as those already detained in prison camps.

"It’s in a situation of disarray right now," Mattis said of the northern Syria region currently besieged by Turkish forces. "Obviously, the Kurds are adapting to the Turkish attacks. And we'll have to see if they're able to maintain the fight against ISIS. It's going to have an impact. The question is, how much?"

"I think Secretary of State [Mike] Pompeo, the intelligence services, the foreign countries that are working with us have it about right that ISIS is not defeated," Mattis continued. "We have got to keep the pressure on ISIS so they don't recover. We may want a war over. We may even declare it over."

    ~~

these fvckwads can't seem to tell the difference between a caliphate and an insurgency!
    Wars can't ever end!

None of that, whether one is opposed or disproves of Mattis's opinion rationalizes Trump f*cking over the Kurds, and to do it via a tweet says a lot about the guy's character

do you think you can EVER address the topic? apparently not!

I told you before to learn logistics -Erdogan was going in no matter what Trump Tweeted or not.
Erdogan launched his offensive within a day of Trumps pullback -Erdogan was already massed at the border for months

So when can we leave Syria? when could we have stopped babysitting the Kurds? *never according to Mattis logic*

Give us proof that "Erdogan was going in no matter what Trump Tweeted or not." You keep repeating that line, which is central to your entire point, but you have yet to offer anything to validate it

Logically, Erdogan wasn't going to do anything if Trump told him no and that Trump was not going to pull US presence out of the area. Do you really think Erdogan would start bombing knowing US soldiers were stationed near Kurd placements?

And the alternative to f*cking over the Kurds wasn't leaving US troops there indefinitely, called diplomacy, working out a solution all sides can live with, ain't easy, takes time, but it is the way things are usually done in the world if you want to accomplish anything, notifying a loyal ally by tweet you are f*cked isn't the normal

So, unless there is a perpetual presence in Syria the Kurds will suffer.

What do we shell out big bucks supporting the UN for? Why don’t they do it?

    Asking for a friend.

I've answered you regarding the logistics. Erdogan was massed. He has been threatening to go in -
all that held him back were "safe zone" negotiations -do you follow any of this?

wars happen all the time under friendly fire -we had like 50 forward personnel .
what they would do is make sure their position is known against friendly fire ( U.S. and Turkey)

And the alternative to f*cking over the Kurds wasn't leaving US troops there indefinitely, called diplomacy, working out a solution all sides can live with, ain't easy, takes time, but it is the way things are usually done in the world if you want to accomplish anything, notifying a loyal ally by tweet you are f*cked isn't the normal
what "diplomacy? Turks and the Kurds ?? you cannot be serious. This is basically a caged steel death match
Nobody wants to do anything but fight and the 2 sides have intractable differences

This isn't about the Turks trying to annihilate the Kurds ( don't believe the media hype)
it's about an annihilation that only goes 2o miles into Syria ( so called buffer zone)

The Kurds could have pulled back - they want the fight as much as the Turks, how do you solve this by diplomacy
in a tight timeline? you can't

UN peacekeepers cannot operate in war zones -they can only go in when the war isn't on.
Basically when there is a stalemate, or the heat of combat is low/nil

Again I disagree with you, the US has a presence all over the Middle East. According to your logic they should pull out of Bahrain, Djibouti, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, UAE and Qatar as well.

I was surprised Trump came up with the right word for perpetual presence posture.
He said we are "policing" not acting like a combat force.

He made a good case for getting out of the ME and getting ready for any future needs by resting and husbanding forces.
Long & short he views war as costly bad business and unless our strategic interests are involved
we should not be there. we can still go anywhere an kill terrorist and not get bogged down

we have 0 strategic interest in Syria - the Russians and Iranians can control it, because they are the strong forces there

we do have strategic interests in Turkey -not just NATO but Incirlik Air Base .
we had a transactional relationship with the Kurds. we did well equip their army at least for them

No more Pax Americana by policing the world.
    ~~
to your point we have a long term strategic relationship for those you mentioned
