Carter did invade Iran during rescue operation Eagle Claw. At the time, I was part of the Rapid Deployment force, and we were having the biggest joint military exercise I've ever seen, in the Mojave Desert. We came out of the desert the day after the mission failed.
The implication being, had they secured the hostages, major forces would have been sent in to pull them out. The now public extraction plans were way too complex to have succeeded.
Socialist Democrats led us into every major U.S. war of the 20th century, NOT republicans.
They all campaigned on promises to keep us out of those wars.
