It is very reassuring to hear every one of Trump's Republican challengers proclaim that yes, indeed, we have to do something about the climate and pronto.

I have faith that the world will get it's act together and take meaningful action on climate change.

    Why?

Because we have so many smart minds working on it.

Am I concerned that deniers will block the efforts?

    No.

    They can't.

Trump pulled us out of the Paris Accord, but nobody in America changed anything they were doing. Trump relaxed the vehicle efficiency standards but automakers have not changed their designs. They have to sell cars in other nations too and those nations have not relaxed their standards.

People want vehicles that get better mileage because those vehicles save them money. Most people understand that over the life of an inefficient vehicle more money is spent on fuel than on the purchase of the vehicle.

Trump relaxed the standards for coal, but everybody is moving away from coal anyway because it just costs too much to extract it and deal with the ash after it's burnt.

Trump may not care about the future for his successors but most people want to know their children and grandchildren will have a chance at a good life. People aren't dumb. Everyone has heard the news of what CO2 is doing. Everyone has heard the news about how it is causing more heat, more fires, more storms, ocean acidity, and sea level rise. They can look around them and see these things happening just as predicted. The world is not listening to deniers.

And the stupidest thing about denial is that it is unwise.

The wise thing to do when facing the unknown, is to prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

There is no wisdom that says deny and assume the best will happen. That's dumb.

    People aren't dumb.

The world is seriously waking up to the realization that we cannot wish this thing away.

And we have great minds working on solutions. Many solutions. Some even talking about taking drastic measures to reduce the heat. Others taking a far more rational approach such as planting way more trees, and safe nuclear power.

We are going to get our act together and we are going to deal with this because that's what humans do. We solve problems.

And the exciting part is there are going to be a lot of great new jobs dealing with it.

Be strong. Be brave. Face this thing head-on. There is no reason to run from it. We will be OK.

In general, this kind of polling shows a sharp demographic divide.

Old, white guys tend to be disproportionately represented in the Climate Denier spectrum.
While younger people, people farther from the grave, and especially millenials tend to think of climate as an existential issue.

My theory is that Old White Guys know they are going to be dead and will not be around and have to deal with the adverse consequences of climate change. Supplemental to that, old guys brains have often atrophied and calcified, and are frequently no longer able to process new information, discount preconceived notions, or be open to suggestion from people who are perceived to be younger and more inexperienced than themselves.

In short, Climate Denial is really the purview of cranky old white men who are emotionally invested in their preconceived paradigm.

I leave the final definitive analysis of Climate Denial to the social scientists and psychologists to research and scrutinize.

    Bingo.

    Think of family structure.

Each generation naturally wants to rebel against parents, do the opposite of what parents say.

So you've got parents telling their kids don't listen to the news, I know better, there's no climate change. And the kids are going yeah right. Then they are talking to their friends. Guess who they side with?

    And in the USA:

    WP

Good luck if you can read that link. I can't. A pop up says they want the ad blocker turned off. I checked it. It is turned off. Still the nastygram message comes up. I often just move on from WP because of that. I am willing to unblock if I value a site, but I have complied and still they can't let me see it. Let me know if you can see it and like it.

So believing in man made global warming, is more important than your actual carbon footprint? Why aren't you advocating for stripping the assets of people who have a carbon footprint that you arbitrarily deem to be too large?
