Los Angeles — A West Hollywood man who has made large donations to the Democratic Party was charged Tuesday with running a drug house out of his apartment, where two men died of overdoses.
Ed Buck was also charged with providing methamphetamine to a 37-year-old man who suffered an overdose last week, CBS Los Angeles reports.
The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office said Buck, 65, was charged with one felony count each of battery causing serious injury, administering methamphetamine and maintaining a drug house.

Pennsylvania state Sen. Mike Folmer, a four-term Republican, was arrested Tuesday on charges of possessing child pornography, and he resigned Wednesday.
Attorney General Josh Shapiro announced the charges Tuesday night after a search warrant was executed on Folmer's house and phone. A forensic search of Folmer's phone uncovered two images depicting child pornography, according to the criminal complaint.

The donor who was arrested after another man overdosed in his California home contributed thousands of dollars to a wide array of state and national Democratic politicians — including former President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
Ed Buck was arrested Tuesday for running a drug house and other crimes after a man overdosed on methamphetamine at his West Hollywood apartment last week.
The man survived, but two others — Gemmel Moore and Timothy Dean — died from overdoses at Buck’s apartment over the last two years, promoting protests calling for his arrest.
Buck, a former model who earned a fortune selling a courier business in Arizona, made the bulk of his donations — $300,000 — to the Animal PAC/Social Compassion in Legislation for Animals that advocates for the humane treatment of all animals, according to an analysis by CBS Los Angeles dating back to 2009.
But the 65-year-old Buck, called a “violent, dangerous sexual predator” in court papers, also doled out thousands of dollars in cash to a number of Democratic politicians between 2007 and 2016.
Along with donations to Clinton and Obama, Buck gave to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Rep. Ted Lieu and Rep. Adam Schiff, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.
Moore, 26, who was homeless and worked as a prostitute, died at Buck’s home in July 2017, while Dean, 55, was found dead there last January.
Prosecutors portrayed Buck as a pervert who preys on his victims.
“From his home, in a position of power, Buck manipulates his victims into participating in his sexual fetishes,” according to court papers. “These fetishes include supplying and personally administering dangerously large doses of narcotics to his victims. … Not deterred by the senseless deaths of Moore and Dean, the defendant nearly killed a third victim last week.”
Buck is expected to be arraigned Wednesday. He faces more than five years in prison if convicted.
