DENVER — Cancer-care expert Dr. Diana Martins-Welch finds herself in an unusual position: Last week she started telling her medical marijuana patients to quit vaping cannabis and pick up a joint instead.

“I would never have thought I’d be in a position to tell someone to smoke marijuana. But if the choice is between smoking and vaping, smoke marijuana.”

Martins-Welch specializes in caring for patients with cancer and chronic pain, and she's certified more than 700 of them to use marijuana under New York's tightly controlled cannabis program, which permits vape extracts with THC, the component of marijuana that produces a high, but bans joints.

However, Martins-Welch is now worried more about whether any kind of vape products are safe to use, given the national outbreak of severe respiratory illnesses linked to vaping nicotine and marijuana. The Centers for Disease Control said Thursday there are 380 confirmed and probable cases and six people have died. No single substance or product has been pinpointed, but the leading suspected cause is chemical exposure.

You're the lucky one then! Anything inhaled on a regular basis will eventually damage your lungs. Of course, most weed smokers don't smoke as many per day as tobacco users.

I also take a helluva lot of vitamins too, as in over 40 years everyday helps out a lot too?!!

If people want to vape herbs there are specific vape pens sold which are created for
that specific ingredient. Completely different device with its own proper heating systems.
Or, just light up a joint.

Unfortunately recently some kids and adults have not educated themselves to this and have
put herbs and oils (even some tried liquor) in simple vaporizers meant for cigarette reduction
which should NEVER have herbs or oils or alcohol placed in them.

There are no "chemicals" in eliquid. Only 4 ingredients:
nicotine (if desired)
Kosher vegetable glycerin (adds sweetness)
Propylene Glycol (also used in all asthma inhalers; also sanitizes air run through hospital ac ducts since the 50's)
Food grade flavors & water

Which is an oil. Something you want to be digested into the bloodstream, not your lungs.
These are people who are ignorant on the entire subject of WHAT
and HOW to properly and healthily vape. They're playing with fire.

And, who knows what the heck kind of ingredients they'll put in their eliquids?!!!

As for the millions who enjoy vaping it will be an inconvenience, but we can always
go back to making our own with the simple ingredients I've already listed.

Congestive Heart failure, that is mostly caused by diet, is still the main cause of Death in the United States and around the world.

And Diabetes and certain Cancers can also be attributed by diet, and that's millions of more deaths a year I thought I would mention.

Personally I don't even bother with nic anymore, so I always use zero when I order. So, what I'm left with is a healthier way to enjoy flavors
all day and night with stuffing snacks and sodas in me. I've never enjoyed chewing gum in my life or mints, sweets and stuff anyway
so vaping has been a God-send to someone like me.

But on this subject you are correct. We shouldn't be attempting to ban products... It didn't work with alcohol, it didn't work with drugs, it won't work with vaping, it won't work with meat, etc. etc. etc... Let the free market do its thing.
