China's economy to become world's biggest in 2035: study
    Jul 8 04:15 PM US/Eastern

China's economy will overtake that of the United States by 2035 and be twice its size by midcentury, a study released Tuesday by a US research organization concluded.

The report by economist Albert Keidel of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace said China's rapid growth is driven by domestic demand more than exports, and will sustain high single-digit growth rates well into the 21st century.

"China's economic performance clearly is no flash in the pan," Keidel writes.

"Its growth this decade has averaged more than 10 percent a year and is still going strong in the first half of 2008. Because its success in recent decades has not been export-led but driven by domestic demand, its rapid growth can continue well into the 21st century, unfettered by world market limitation."

Keidel said the rise of China to the world's biggest economy will happen regardless of the method of calculation.

Being that they have ten times our population, the only thing that has been holding them back is their economic system. This isn't surprising at all. English will still be the international language and the world will still be western dominated for a long time. If you'd recall, back in 1940 China and India had half the worlds GDP. They're simply getting back to that after a failed tryst with command economies.

Only if we keep facilitating their fascism and becoming dependant on them by handing them all our production capacity.

There is no fate. This is wishful thinking on the part of the Internationalist Fascists. It is not a FACT by any stretch of the imagination.

AssHat, you're acting assinine. China and India will become the worlds largest economies by virtue of the fact that they have the largest population and are switching to market economies. Stop acting like a mercantilist. Even if America started a total blockade the only thing that would happen would be that the process would speed up. America will always be the third largest economy for a long time - because we have the third largest population.

You're acting assinine. Right now they're heavily dependant on western businesses willing to put their people out of work for cheaper labor, and us outsourcing any and all functions, even in an unwise fashion. They didn't start growing until we handed them these on a silver platter.

Im not a mercantilist, dipshit, you are.

I don't advocate a blockade. I advocate keeping western jobs for westerners and not outsourcing so much crap. Can they not develope without those gifts? How racist of you.

    Free enterprise isn't a gift, it's a right.
