Default 'Universal Time'. Exact same 'clock' used for Planet.

    'Universal Time'.
I just heard about this proposal on a Morning Talk Show. Every one on the Planet uses the exact same 'time' as everyone else. If it is 1400 in London, it's 1400 in New York, Tokyo, and Moscow. I was a little skeptical at first, but after listening to these two old guys, I think it has merit.
There would be no more 'setting your watch' up or back depending on what Time Zone you were in. It would be completely detached from the usual thinking that 7am is in the morning and 9pm is in the evening. It would be a '24 hour clock', no more 'two 6 o'clocks', just a 100 to 2400 (or 000 to 2400) clock.

    Any thoughts?

When I am at work, we operate on GMT, which we call zulu time. It is 7-8 hours ahead of Pacific time, depending on whether we are effing around with gaylight savings.

That makes no sense whatsoever for obvious reasons. Times purpose in history has been meant to mark the cycles of the sun. What dumbass brought this up on TV?

    What a stupid idea.

As it is now, everything wherever you go happens more or less at the same time. Stores open at 9am, supper is at 6pm, etc. But, with universal time, wherever you travel, you'd have to mentally convert everything from the universal time. If you land in California or New York, from Asia or Europe, when do the stores open and when is supper, if it's 1200 around the globe?

Well, you have first hand experience. (I don't think there is any 'Daylight Savings Time' involved)
So? Everybody working off GMT is a good idea? Everybody accepts a '24 hour clock' is a good idea?

Hi Jack! I think most people would convert it mentally to 'old time', then they would know whether it's morning, afternoon, etc.

    Time is time.

How we identify the current time and place is just a number.

I could get used to it.

It would be a pretty big adjustment for the country.

Lots of references to time of day in literature, movies, music.

Working 9 to 5, what a way to make a living.

You're a moron. You can't understand what you're talking about, let alone getting use to it.

Most Americans are still ignorant of the metric system. That has been universal for a long time. Americans do not adapt.

hahahaha (You're killing me here, Jade)

You would have to detach yourself from the traditional way of looking at the 'time of day'. You would have to accept 'time of day' as being a global system to unify the Planet into using a single 'clock'.

'Morning' is morning wherever you are at. You DON'T need a clock to tell you that. If it's morning in 'Place X' and it says 1600 hours, well then, that is when the Store opens. It's suppose to be a system to simplify 'time' by everyone just using one 'clock' (GMT).

Time should honor Einsteins special relativity and depend on frame of reference ,gravitational field, and velocity .

Yeah. Well, the two old guys that proposed this, said it would probably go over like the 'Metric System'. Meaning, the United States is the only country in the World that doesn't use the Metric System.
You know Tranquillus, it's kind of sad that even the English don't use the 'English System' anymore ... only the Americans still use it.

FYI: Soda Pop is sold in 2 litre containers. Other than that ...

I think it would be an easy transition. Inertia. That would be the greatest obstacle.
