Default Trump expresses regret over trade war with China, then claims he was 'misinterpreted'

Trump signaled Sunday that he may be having regrets over his trade war with China, but the White House backtracked a few hours later and said he had been misunderstood.

At a breakfast meeting with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Trump said “yeah” when a reporter asked if he was having second thoughts about how the trade conflict with China has escalated.

“I have second thoughts about everything,” he said.

White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham later issued a statement seeking to clarify Trump's comments and suggesting the only thing he regrets is not placing higher tariffs on Chinese goods.

A transcript of Trump's exchange with reporters shows that he was asked three times whether he had any regrets on the trade tensions with China. Each time, he indicated that he did.

In what could be read as an effort to put some distance between the U.S. and the U.K. posture on global trade, Johnson told reporters on Saturday that he was concerned about the escalating trade war between the U.S. and China and suggested a “dialing down” of tensions.

"Just to register the faint, sheep-like note of our view on the trade war, we're in favor of trade peace on the whole, and dialing it down if we can,” Johnson said at Sunday's breakfast meeting with Trump.

The two leaders then parried gently on trade.

“On the whole, the UK has profited massively in the last 200 years from free trade, and that's what we want to see,” Johnson said. “And so we're keen to see —we don't like tariffs on the whole.”

“If we have to have a choice between being dead and pitied, and being alive with a bad image, we’d rather be alive and have the bad image.”

China will crack. Their entire economy is based on exports. You don't understand economics so you don't understand what is going on.

Seems like a strange thing for nationalist Johnson to be saying.

it is always you who does not understand. The Chinese corporations are American. The Chinese have begun doing it without Americans but we made it all possible by moving our operations to China for short term profits. They learned. They have an incredible system of higher education. They are ahead of us in many fields. The company that makes a product, is the one that improves it and improves the systems. We are falling back due to our ownership class. They gave it all away.

"There is no question former President Trump bears moral responsibility. His supporters stormed the Capitol because of the unhinged falsehoods he shouted into the world’s largest megaphone," McConnell wrote. "His behavior during and after the chaos was also unconscionable, from attacking Vice President Mike Pence during the riot to praising the criminals after it ended."

SO true, while we were wasting time & money killing ppl & regime change China progressed & the capitalist eagerly had them make the ropes to hang us, not those exploiting us & them...

i don't beleive he miscalculated in that this is the very best time to go after China
( which Obama and Bush and Clinton would not do) being as or economy is booming.

China has only 1 hope to avoid negotiating a new bilateral agreement -if Trump loses and we get some asshat Democrat in there like China Joe

Last week, Biden raised eyebrows when he shrugged off concerns over the China threat.
“Come on, man,” Biden said. “I mean, you know, they’re not bad folks, folks. But guess what, they’re not competition for us.”

Here's why audio/video of actual conversations in conferences held specifically for conversations is better than print media.........

Abortion rights dogma can obscure human reason & harden the human heart so much that the same person who feels
empathy for animal suffering can lack compassion for unborn children who experience lethal violence and excruciating
    pain in abortion.

Unborn animals are protected in their nesting places, humans are not. To abort something is to end something
which has begun. To abort life is to end it.

I totally disagree, this is not the best time...... niXon betrayed the country-he gets the last laugh

ANy time after that was the best time....

Just before they were allowed in the WTO would have been another great opportunity...

We can't do anything about those missed opportunities.. IMHO a lot of water has already gone under the bridge making this much harder...

    What is the agreement??

What are the sticking points China is refusing to budge on??

I have not seen it, have you, has anyone??

We are guessing, based on what two liars are saying..

Why are we not privy to the specifics??
