Hmmm, do they go through the effort and cost of abandoning China, or just back a new presidential candidate for the election in a little over a year who will reverse the idiotic trade war?

Trump’s opponents still want their cheap plastic trinkets, so they will gladly fund and defend the totalitarianism and pollution of the Chinese Communist Party before they ever stand behind their own president.

Does anyone really believe trump actually has a fuckin clue how this all works out??

I have never heard him explain anything about how the debt works.. He does not seem to understand that the USA/dollar is the world currency.

Hopefully someone, sooner or later will ask him to explain it-this crazy shit would be over in a few mins.....

He wants the country to do what he won't do himself.

"Unfortunately, my ties are made in China," Trump admitted in June 2016.

Trump suits sold on Amazon.com are listed as imported. Buzzfeed ordered two; they were made in Indonesia.

Trump rectangular shaped eyeglasses are made in China, according to retailer eyeglasses.com.

A white golf hat was made in China, while a Trump mug was made in Thailand. A shoe bag and duffel bag were made in China. A toddler bib he ordered was made in Peru. A Trump collector medallion was made in China.

Otherwise capital is always going to find its most efficient place. It makes no sense for Nike (for example) to pay $20+/hr plus benefits for someone to make shoes when it can be done cheaply elsewhere. It's why they offshore.
The president himself doesn't put America first! Have you ever looked at how much he produces and/or buys from other countries?

American/other companies are far more invested in China than China is here/there. Are there any reasons besides labor & material costs that could make being in China better?

Things that make tax cuts & some dereg is simply insignificant??

Isn't this part of the plan??? They are now slowly moving towards a service oriented economy & a lot of ppl have moved up & don't want to do that dirty work for low wages any more-& they don't have to.......

Does it make sense for America as a nation to be sending lots of dollars overseas in return for a bunch of products which are used for a while and then ultimately end up in the landfill? For us to be sending more wealth overseas than we are importing? Does that make sense for our national economy to do that?

I am not advocating for Trump but something needs to be done to address the trade imbalance. We need to sit down with other nations and get a common agreement that if one nation is hurt, it hurts the rest because we are all interdependent. We need to get sensible trade policy that recognizes that fact.

But agreed, when we get to AI, there will be no reason for the machines to be in China. There will be, at that point, no reason to have workers at all. Zero labor cost. And that will be when we will have to have a Universal Basic Income and tax the rich machine-owners to pay for it.

And there is no solution to that trend. Capitalism has no goals found in the Preamble of the Constitution. The goal of capitalism is to make the holders of capital richer. Any other benefits that trickle down are purely happenstance and in no way guaranteed to last. The only thing capitalism is guaranteed to do is function to make the existing holders of capital ever richer.
This is an inherent flaw in how our system works, as opposed to China & I don't see how it can be fixed short of a revolution or some other drastic steps.

There is obviously no loyalty to the USA or our workers & they will not give up their advantages until either forced or the goose that lays the golden eggs is dead & has been sucked completely dry.. THey will move to china, Burma or wherever & carry on their life style while we are stuck in their bankrupt squalor...

If the U.S. can switch from Trade deficit to Trade Surplus status, I think that may help us to handle the debt better.

There seem to be few viable solutions, other than to grow our economy.

You wish. Trump gets it in for somebody or a nation and that's it. Ya can't tell him anything different. Nobody can have a rational conversation with him. He always knows best. Stop and think is not part of his playbook.

There was a time, long ago, when our middle class was the envy of the world, the goose that laid the golden egg..
Labor was protected, VALUED, as the essence of that egg.. Now something like 40% live pay check to pay check & don't have even $400 for a rainy day..

American workers have value, as does their dwindling spending power....

Apple, Amazon rake in billions, more than they know what to do w/ & pay no taxes.... This is not by accident & this will be one of the pillars of the American downfall......
