I understand they are already leaving to escape the tariffs. A slow withdrawal is not impractical.

I think the law can be applied. Unless it gets implemented, which I doubt, we may never find out.

Socialism is just the modern word for monarchy.

D.C. has become a Guild System with an hierarchy and line of accession much like the Royal Court or priestly classes.

Private citizens are perfectly able of doing a better job without "apprenticing".

    exactly......

This is a great country & we have had a great run the last 80 years & IMHO it is unimaginable that we are so feeble as to necessitate outlawing Americans from doing business there because we can't compete.....................

IMHO we most certainly can compete, we need to make the changes necessary here to unleash the creativity & entrepreneurship here, like China did there..

I think trump is understandably frustrated/pissed after trying to entice companies back home, tax breaks etc & they take whatever they offer & don't budge..
"There is no question former President Trump bears moral responsibility. His supporters stormed the Capitol because of the unhinged falsehoods he shouted into the world’s largest megaphone," McConnell wrote. "His behavior during and after the chaos was also unconscionable, from attacking Vice President Mike Pence during the riot to praising the criminals after it ended."

And the reason they don't do that is because they would lose money.

Those Chinese workers have no rights. The only way to compete with that is to take away American worker rights. Race to the bottom.

Labor is cheaper there. Either you get American workers to be happy with $80 a week or you can't match the labor cost. Shoot. The way our health care industry has us by the privates, that hardly even covers health care.

Actually labor isn’t all that cheap in China which is why businesses have been moving factories to places like Vietnam and other countries for years.

?? Not everything in China is made by hand.... We can't build better automation, robots etc better than China?? Phones?? LapTops, tractors, cars??

It isn't a zero some gain... They can prosper & so can we........

Lots of "workers" in this country are already dragging along the bottom, all the wealth has been flowing to the top since the 70's that problem didn't start w/ China, China merely exasperated it......

And that suggests a growing middle class in China, which, if we were smart, we would realize as their economy naturally grows larger than ours, that an equilibrium would be reached which would naturally drive some manufacturing back to America. Trump is just not willing to let that play out.

Trump did de-regulation, that was bigger then any tax cut - but I agree tax cuts can also be used.
Eventually the trade war will end and we will be a lot better off for it

That's not how it works and it doesn't involve Trump. As stated companies have been moving production out of China for years to places like Vietnam and Malaysia which has cheaper labor. The world is not a zero sum game between China and the U.S. Companies have other options where they can locate operations.

Oh, I get your point. As we automate, there is no reason to have the machines in China. Except the people who run the machines work for less in China than they do in the USA. Some of the biggest corporations operate on slim margins (think Amazon). They will take any savings they can get multiplied by a million orders.

But agreed, when we get to AI, there will be no reason for the machines to be in China. There will be, at that point, no reason to have workers at all. Zero labor cost. And that will be when we will have to have a Universal Basic Income and tax the rich machine-owners to pay for it.

And there is no solution to that trend. Capitalism has no goals found in the Preamble of the Constitution. The goal of capitalism is to make the holders of capital richer. Any other benefits that trickle down are purely happenstance and in no way guaranteed to last. The only thing capitalism is guaranteed to do is function to make the existing holders of capital ever richer.

Except for the fact that these are American based companies that hire millions of American workers but other than that...

You should support a President and Congress that puts America first and wants to take us back to a time before globalization and technology revolution that we know today. Otherwise capital is always going to find its most efficient place. It makes no sense for Nike (for example) to pay $20+/hr plus benefits for someone to make shoes when it can be done cheaply elsewhere. It's why they offshore.

Incorrect of course. The act is an emergency act, not a presidential power for fun. There is no emergency. Trump has lots of people looking for loopholes that give him unprecedented powers. As an example he is a nut about the pardoning power. No president abused it as he did and he has plans to use it in a wholesale manner at the end. You agree with anything Daffy does.
Trump will end up with legislators redefining presidential powers to make them clearer. In the future, we will have the prez in a legal straight jacket. His powers will have to be defined. We have not had a guy like this in office since Nixon.

They have no options. You are really not too bright. You would think Trump would make his overpriced crap in America while he is in office, wouldn't you? But he is too greedy to even do that. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/don...couldn-n893656 Rightys buy imported stuff too. They also have no choice. True you dunno.
