It might hurt some a little bit. Some may need some temporary gov't aid. That's certainly not unprecedented. But overall, it would help American businesses and workers.

China has to worry about its Asian competitors waiting in the wings to replace them. And if Xi makes the wrong moves, he could trigger a peoples revolution in China.

Well, I think after tariffs, sanctions is the next and last step.

As President Trump departs for France to represent the U.S. at the G-7 summit of world leaders, the memories of the insults he has leveled against key U.S. allies will still be fresh, and he'll be interacting with some of those same leaders over the next few days.

In recent weeks, the president has lashed out at some of the United States' steadfast friends, while offering glowing words for strongmen like North Korea's Kim Jong Un and Russia's Vladimir Putin. In recent days, Mr. Trump has revived his suggestion that Russia should be reinstated into the group of seven leaders of major advanced economies, blaming former President Obama for allowing Russia to annex Crimea. Mr. Trump sometimes suggests America's friends treat her worse than her enemies, particularly on trade, a worldview and approach to international politics that critics say sends the wrong signal to a watching world.

"Our allies take advantage of us far greater than our enemies," the president told his audience at a manufacturing plant in Pennsylvania earlier this month.

Earlier this week, the president unloaded on Denmark's prime minister for suggesting Greenland is indeed not for sale, describing her comments as "nasty" and suddenly canceling his trip to Denmark. Mr. Trump described his disgust in detail to reporters on the White House South Lawn Wednesday.

"No – Denmark, I looked forward to going, but I thought that the prime minister's statement – that it was absurd; that it was an absurd idea – it was nasty," Mr. Trump said Wednesday. "I thought it was an inappropriate statement. All she had to do is say, 'No, we wouldn't be interested.' But we can't treat the United States of America the way they treated us under President Obama. I thought it was a very not nice way of saying something."

He's also laid into Britain, France and Germany for not taking back ISIS fighters captured in Syria, threatening to release the fighters back into those countries.

"And, by the way, we're holding thousands of ISIS fighters right now, and Europe has to take them," Mr. Trump also told reporters on the White House South Lawn Wednesday. "And if Europe doesn't take them, I'll have no choice but to release them into the countries from which they came, which is Germany, and France, and other places."

The president has also voiced intense frustration with G-7 member France and French President Emmanuel Macron over trade-related issues, even threatening to place tariffs on French wines.

"France just put a digital tax on our great American technology companies," the president tweeted last month. "If anybody taxes them, it should be their home Country, the USA. We will announce a substantial reciprocal action on Macron's foolishness shortly."

Mr. Trump, who does not drink alcohol, added, "I've always said American wine is better than French wine!"

don't care. for too long the EU has hit us with tariffs and lack of market access ( but not on the scale of China)

Russia should be in the G-8.
remember the goal was always the integration of Russia in to the western economies
and NOT A DIRECT MILITARY AN ECONOMIC PARTNER WITH CHINA

we got a lot of realignment to do

You’re seeing certain people on the right celebrating Koch’s death (and some think bi-partisanship is dead) because he’s a globalist and you’re asking if they are upset that foreign leaders don’t like Trump? Come on now...

This is really economic warfare. It wasn't suppposed to be,but for China the best result of negotiation is no change to the status quo..

The EU will come around and so will China like Canada did with NAFTA 2. but China is using up it's cash reserves and manipulating it's currency in order to wait Trump out if he loses re-election..

China wants us to get cold feet and Trump to throw in the towel for his re-election.
But we are not going to crak, and when this finally ends the US trade position will be vastly improve worldwide
but we gotta hang in ( and Congress needs to ratify NAFTA 2 as an example)

    Militarily, obviously.

Our only economic vulnerability was energy, and we are Now a net exporter. That's a Yuge game changer.

The BRI has made China more vulnerable to economic and political pressure. They have a good faith business reputation to uphold, now. And Chinese military action in foreign BRI countries would be like lighting a powder keg. JMHO

Fortunately, the status quo is not in Chinese control. And Trump has always been prepared for economic warfare with China. You might even say ... "its his thing". :0)

We already talked some about the countries lining up to attack and influence our 2020 elections in an effort to take out Trump. It's going to be big.

I don't see Russia being in or out as anything more than a political move & I can't even recall what it is suppose to accomplish.

No one seems to agree that having our allies on our side is a good idea....
