So Republican posters are liars, who cannot be honest with themselves or with other posters?

I actually think Trump is genuinely beloved and popular with the Republican base....

I cannot see conservative posters investing countless hours, significant chunks of their lives, to come to an obscure message board and pour ever fiber of their being into defending Trump, if they supposedly are secretly unhappy with Trump.

Who does that? That takes a person who not only lacks self-respect, but is perfectly willing to plumb the depths of deception and dishonesty.

Walsh could come out and say Trump carries a huge risk of blowing up and/or being impeached, but Walsh represents a far less risky Republican voice.

The problem for Walsh being that without the deplorable vote, can he muster enough good Republican votes to beat the Dems.
I think Walsh has said too many "mean" things about Trump, to every get back in the good graces with GOP voters.

I have seen how conservative posters angrily leap out of their chairs to defend Trump against all insults, in much the same way a husband or wife will leap to defend the honor of their spouse. The worship and obsequiousness of conservative posters towards their Orange Hero borders on bizarre and even creepy.

If Walsh somehow wrested the candidacy away from Trump, deplorables would still vote GOP and likely with a great sense of relief.

Almost every conservative poster here would vote for Ted Nugent over Joe Biden in a two-way race, and wouldn't even have to think twice about it.

All hypotheticals and "what-ifs" aside, short of having a nervous breakdown, Trump is going to walk away with the GOP nomination and blow away all competition. I do not think the GOP base in unhappy at all with Trump - I believe he is beloved and worshipped broadly by garden variety conservatives, even if he causes angst amongst some elitists on the editorial boards of National Review and WSJ.

Joe Walsh was a tea party guy, was in office for only two years, and voted for and supported Trump in 2016. And I’m supposed to believe liberals like this guy now? Please...

Leaving aside how difficult it is to defeat an incumbent President in a primary Joe Walsh ain’t the guy who would do it.

The New York Times reported Wednesday that Walsh, now a radio host, will announce his candidacy as early as the weekend. Walsh argued in an op-ed for the newspaper last week that the president needed a primary challenge from the right and told the Times in an interview that he would announce his intentions before Labor Day.

Walsh would join former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld (R), who announced his candidacy earlier this year, as the second Republican challenger to mount the long-shot challenge against Trump, whose approval rating among Republicans has hovered above 50 percent since he took office in 2017.

The former congressman supported Trump during the 2016 election but has hammered the president for his conduct in the years that followed. Earlier this year, he sharply criticized Trump over behavior outlined in Robert Mueller's report that detailed the results of the special counsel investigation into the Trump campaign.

"I don't know how anybody can read this report and think, 'This is behavior that we want in our president,'" he told CNN's Brooke Baldwin at the time.

"Criminal behavior, who knows?" he added. "But, boy, dishonest, immoral, unethical? Heck yes it is. And I’ll tell you, Brooke, every Republican on Capitol Hill agrees with what I just said. They can’t say that publicly."

Walsh previously served one term in Congress as a Tea Party-aligned Republican and swiped at Weld as a centrist earlier this month in the Times op-ed.

“The president is more vulnerable to a challenge from the right. I’m on the right, and I’m hugely disappointed that challenge hasn’t yet materialized,” Walsh wrote at the time.
Will he assemble his cabinet from former members of The James Gang and The Eagles?

WRONG again; Trump is supported by the Republican base because we know allowing one of the low IQ morons in the Party of the Jackass to win would be a disaster for the nation.

I think a majority of Americans feel this way regardless of all the false propaganda being propagated by the PHONY media.

IRONY from a leftist who invest countless hours, significant chunks of their lives, to come to an obscure message board and pour ever fiber of their being into crying about Trump.

Never going to happen. So I expect you will continue to LIE and cry about Trump and make yourself look even dumber and more pathetic. Assuming that is even possible at this point.

    a) The people who post here do not represent a cross section of America.
    b) Nobody here has ever defended Trump. All they do is deny Trump did the deed, deflect, or attack anybody who criticizes him.

I think it is more along the line of most Trump voters believe Trump has a better chance and they will stick with him over the SCOTUS if nothing else. Although, if the economy tanks Trump is toast.

Yeah, but they don't really defend him. They just deny, deflect, attack.

You want to know how you will be able to tell every single one of those claims were bald-face lies?

Because Trump will win the GOP nomination with 99 percent of the vote. Even though Walsh presumably is more representative of traditional Republicanism, Trump will blow him out of the water hands down. Trump is the most beloved and popular Republican politician of our generation with the conservative base. Its Trump's party now. And almost every single solitary conservative is not only in the tank for him, but are willing to spend countless hours on obscure message boards pouring their heart and soul into defending him, supporting him, and providing cover for him.

"There is no question former President Trump bears moral responsibility. His supporters stormed the Capitol because of the unhinged falsehoods he shouted into the world’s largest megaphone," McConnell wrote. "His behavior during and after the chaos was also unconscionable, from attacking Vice President Mike Pence during the riot to praising the criminals after it ended."
