I think your next question depends on if the US wants to engage in a joint alliance between Corporations and the Government, like the Chinese do in promoting their national corporate enterprises.
Think of the Russians and Sputnik. In response, the Americans formed NASA, a joint Government/Corporate entity.
In the 'Technology Race', the Chinese are winning because their government is totally on board with their national corporations. Any chance the US Government will team with Silicon Valley?
Or ... would that be 'socialism'.
The American government representatives are bought and sold by Corporate Capitalism.

Well there may have been 10-15 years ago, I don't think the choices left are ones most Americans want..

(There may be others, variants of the two, but if there are more, viable alternatives I would certainly like to hear them)

1.) Is to simply acquiesce and perhaps even participate, do what is in the best interest of the American consumers.

2.) Resist what everyone is calling the Chinese Century &/or actively subvert/sabotage~ up to & including hostile military operations in opposition.

We're in a Global economy, there is no turning back.

In my opinion, we need to make a Decision on which 'system' is going to be viable in the Future. A strictly 'Private Enterprise' system (current American), or a 'State/Corporate Enterprise' system (current Chinese).

On a personal bias, I would hate for the US to be reliant on Chinese Technology in the Future.
Agreed, it worked out for some, while others where just copied & dumped.. (copying having a different meaning there)

In the past I thought the same, that perhaps we could make some changes but I now know that isn't an option (@ least that I can see coming about).....

Our systems are not to variants of capitalism, in fact, they say they are not capitalist. @ least not in the sense we traditionally understand in the west, & I believe they are correct.

Hierarchically structured differently~ in the Chinese system the party is over all, PERIOD.. Then you have the business classes (government/hybrid/private) & corporations subservient to them, & then you have the ppl..

In the USA you have the rich/corporations, then the government & then the ppl.......

I was listening to a Professor in Singapore giving a lecture & he said there is no war, China is way a head & would remain so.

He went on to say essentially they are so far ahead that saying China is stealing is ludicrous because the US/western tech is already behind what they are doing...

I don't necessarily agree w/ that but I do think he made a good point about the advancements in CHina..

Jack: Their Stock trades on the NYSE and NASDAQ. Baidu and Tencent jump to mind. In my view, they have adopted 'Free Markets' but with a joint ownership of the national government.

    My Thoughts?
America should form a 'NASA-like' joint venture with Silicon Valley and the US Government. Combining the unlimited purchasing power of the US Government, the expertise of Corporate America, and all the Brain Power of the R&D Departments of the Nation's Universities. Create a Vision of 'Technical Superiority for Western Democracies'.

America used to do this. NASA and the 'Moon Race' come to mind. The Panama Canal comes to mind. I think it's just recently that a group of Bluntskulls mutter "That's socialism" every time some idea comes up that involves the Government and Industry.
