WASHINGTON (AP) — A top Trump administration official said Tuesday that the famous inscription on the Statue of Liberty welcoming immigrants into the country is about "people coming from Europe" and that America is looking to receive migrants "who can stand on their own two feet."
The comments from Ken Cuccinelli, the acting director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, came a day after the Trump administration announced it would seek to deny green cards to migrants who seek Medicaid, food stamps, housing vouchers or other forms of public assistance. The move — and Cuccinelli's defense — prompted an outcry from Democrats and immigration advocates who said the policy would favor wealthier immigrants and disadvantage those from poorer countries in Latin America and Africa.

Why would any country want immigrants who can’t support themselves and their families and have to be housed, fed, educated and provided health care...on the American taxpayer?

What he actually said:
"Well, of course, that poem was referring back to people coming from Europe where they had class-based societies, where people were considered 'wretched' if they weren't in the right class ... it was written one year after the first federal public charge rule was written" (the public charge rule was about prohibiting those unable to care for themselves as being granted entry to the United States).
He was provably correct and the statement was not even a little bit controversial. Please stop lying to invent controversies out of thin air where they don't exist, dishonest demagogue. And thanks for demonstrating what outrageous pathological liars our Democrat-controlled news media are, peddling non-stop provably false propaganda against Trump.

Here we see that barely concealed racist, xenophobic dog-whistles the Trump administration relentlessly uses.
In this case, a very obvious allusion to a yearning to turn the United States back to an early 20th century immigration policy - which was specifically designed to allow immigration of the Aryan Master Race from Nordic and Germanic nations - while excluding Chinese, Jews, Asians, Hispanics, Slavs, and other undesirable and inferior elements, aka Untermensch in the lexicon of the Nazis.

The statement is historically accurate.
What’s the problem?
Coup has started. First of many steps. Impeachment will follow ultimately~WB attorney Mark Zaid, January 2017
America is not birthing people fast enough so immigrants are an important part of the economy. They come here to better themselves and their families. They do the jobs that our people would not do at the wages they are paid. The wealthy and secure do not move to another country.

To expect emigrants to our country to be self-sufficient and not a burden on American taxpayers is a patriotic policy. We set policy, why? Because it’s our country, not theirs,
pathetic. not at all what was said
