My answer is this: I do not know what we should do.
I am obscure poster on an obscure message board without any professional training or expertise in foreign policy. My professional responsibilities preclude me from investing the months and years of my time to become a trained and reputable expert on China and foreign policy.

Unlike most dudes here - who ever pose as armchair experts on every subject under the sun -- my ego is not at risk by admitting ignorance or lack of expertise.

This is why we have experts. Expertise matters. We know that Trump does not know what he is doing. Pompeo is a NeoCon warhawk who has proven his incompetence. My take is to turn the running of our foreign policy over to people with expertise, people who actually know what they are doing. They undoubtedly exist. And make Trump sit in the back of the bus and keep his mouth shut.

That did not become a major talking point to justify the invasion of Iraq, until it became obvious that the WMD excuse was becoming dubious.
