They would be the good people who, like frogs who have been boiled slowly, initially resisted Trump, but then gave up and became supporters. They are good people who normally would not support such an immoral candidate - and didn't. But after he took over the Republican party they had to make a choice between staying and supporting Trump or abandoning the only party they have ever voted with. Slowly, like the frogs, they have told themselves that his BS makes sense, and finally they have embraced it and repeated the propaganda themselves. That is when the con job is complete. They are the conned.
Absolutely, and so does Trump. Pubic image is EVERYTHING to him. Obama was willing to burn some of his initially soaring popularity to get health care reform - and what a price he paid. But Trump would never do that. (Despite promising the American people cheaper care that would cover everybody and then failing to deliver on that.) Besides, he can't afford to burn any political capital. He has so little of it. Despite putting most of his waking days into watching TV and worrying about his image, actively managing it like no other president, it still sucks.
