"There is no question former President Trump bears moral responsibility. His supporters stormed the Capitol because of the unhinged falsehoods he shouted into the world’s largest megaphone," McConnell wrote. "His behavior during and after the chaos was also unconscionable, from attacking Vice President Mike Pence during the riot to praising the criminals after it ended."

Just a sad philosophical comment about today's 50th anniversary of the moon landing. It happened at the tail end of one of the most turbulent decades in our history. Civil rights. Women's rights. War in Vietnam. Protests, bombings, marches, riots, burnings, assassinations. Yet we somehow managed to overcome all that to create one of our most amazing human achievements -- putting people on a foreign space body that every person can see at night, and bringing them back home safely again. For a little while, our whole planet was one united species. Even if you weren't alive back then, you still may marvel at how primitive the technology was that enabled us to do this, compared to what you have in your purse or pocket today. We haven't done anything comparable in your life time, so far.

Fast forward to today. We have an insane clown for a president, a country far more divided than it was in 1969, yet still prosperous and influential. Once upon a time the world looked at us as a shining beacon of freedom, liberty, science, technology, achievement, aspiration, peace. Do you think that we still have that image?

Absolutely. Otherwise, people wouldn't risk life and limb to get here, doncha think? People would be leaving instead.

The country is divided; how did that happen? Be honest.

It's divided because we let it happen, we let media and leaders convince us that our particular POV is superior to all others.
