Writing in the Daily Telegraph, Sajid Javid, Home Secretary in the UK Conservative government, remembers being scared as a young boy having to walk to school by a different route to avoid National Front thugs.

"We have come a long way since then," he says, but warns of "far-right thugs hiding their racism behind a false pretence of nationalism" and "extremists who latch onto these divisions and fears like bacteria and help spread them, trying to infect communities."

He recalls that as Home Secretary he has excluded extremists from the UK, ranging from a far-right white supremacist to a US black nationalist, as well as hate preachers.

"The point where outspoken comments become hate speech is a grey area and one that must be approached carefully. We all have a responsibility to be mindful of the words we use so that free speech, one of our greatest values, is not used to justify hate-fuelled actions."


Mr Javid names no names; but if it's who I think, and he's asking him to be mindful of his words - some hope! Might as well ask a pig to fly.
