    If those reactors had been 3rd generation with passive shutdown then nothing would have happened. Four Westinghouse designed AP1000s have just gone into service in China.

    The critical mass is nearly out of control and no efforts have alleviated the problem.

    The mass is less critical then when it was in the functioning reactor. It has been spread out over the wreckage underwater. It's much colder now, but still puts out enough to warm the water a little. Robots are currently in the process of the very slow cleanup job.
