Default like a little Pink Floyd? - Gilmour auctions off 126 guitars to fight Climate Change

“The global climate crisis is the greatest challenge that humanity will ever face, and we are within a few years of the effects of global warming being irreversible,” tweeted Gilmour.

“We need a civilized world that goes on for all our grandchildren and beyond in which these guitars can be played and songs can be sung.”

I might take some guitar tips from Gilmour.

Check that, I would absolutely take some guitar tips from him. Climate science tips?

    Not so much lol.

A good use of one's wealth and assets.

On another tangent, I consider David Gilmour to be one of the most under-rated guitarists in the rock pantheon, as well as the heart and soul of Pink Floyd, with no apologies to Roger Waters.

That's because Floyd isn't in the rock pantheon, it is alone in its own genre.

I saw them on the Animals tour in Anaheim, 1977

they had huge lit-up balloon animals going back and forth across the stadium on cables, was a warm May night with a cooling drizzle, mescaline coursing through my veins, definitely loved that band

Back in the 60's Floyd was the go to music for the midnight show every Friday night at the Miami Planetarium. It fit the "mood" in there
for those of us in the hippie generation. Saw them LIVE, flying pig and all, great music, Gilmour was phenomenal. Now he's an earth worshiper.
Oh well, still love his music.
Abortion rights dogma can obscure human reason & harden the human heart so much that the same person who feels
empathy for animal suffering can lack compassion for unborn children who experience lethal violence and excruciating
    pain in abortion.

Unborn animals are protected in their nesting places, humans are not. To abort something is to end something
which has begun. To abort life is to end it.

    I can't argue that.

What ever you want to call it, David Gilmour is easily on a par with Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Alex Lifeson, and other axemen of the rock genre, even if he rarely is ever mentioned in the same sentence with those cats.

Can't leave out Hendrix either. Saw him LIVE in Miami in '67 and '70.
The best though? SRV. Stevie Ray Vaughn. He opened the show for Clapton once. When SRV
left the stage, Clapton said, "How the hell am I supposed to follow THAT?!"
It was once said that Page makes you want to pick up a guitar. Stevie makes you want to throw it in the trash. I agree.

In high school and college, every amateur rock guitar player I knew wanted to copy/sound like Jimmy Page. Although I admit, my model was Angus Young.

Page was more accessible, one could actually figure out what he was doing. Hendrix received massive respect, but he was too weird and no one could figure out what he was doing. Rockers and metal heads respected Clapton, but he was way too wimpy to be our model, especially after toning it down post-Cream days.

The thing that I came to realize about David Gilmour is that less is more. He had a profound, soulful and deep bluesy way of playing that made as much use of empty space as it did in actual notes. That takes real ability, vision, and talent. It made me realize that all the speed and finger-tapping I was admiring Eddie Van Halen for, was really just way too busy and frenetic.

I agree regarding Gilmour. It was a style that was "purposeful" for lack a better word. More about each single note being highlighted and drawn out rather than complex chords.
I appreciated his style immensely as there was such intensity in his and the group's sound.
But, for that blues, jazz and rock mix type of sound...hard to beat SRV, Page & Hendrix.

That would account for your guitar playing being conventional and derivative.

The image behind Gilmour is, of course, a coal-fired power station. PF's flying pig was tethered to Battersea power station in 1977. Climatically symbolic ? Battersea power station consumed a million tonnes of coal annually. London was filthy. Six years later it shut down for good.
Climate science tips from somebody who was an activist 40 years ago ? You ought to reconsider.

Climate protestors storm Garzweiler coal mine in Germany

Hundreds of climate change activists have stormed an open cast coal mine in western Germany to campaign against fossil fuels.

The protesters ran through fields and broke through a police cordon to get into the Garzweiler mine.

Police had warned that the mine was not safe and said some officers were hurt as they tried to hold back protesters.

Germany has vowed to go carbon neutral by 2050 but activists say this is not soon enough.

Recent surveys have shown that climate change tops a list of concerns in Germany, with the Green party polling alongside the governing Christian Democrats.
