Default News that liberals won't like

Today the Supreme Court threw out a ruling against two Oregon bakers who refused to bake a wedding cake for a lesbian couple.

The couple, Melissa and Aaron Klein, cited religious beliefs as their reason for not providing services for a gay wedding. This touched off the latest in a series of such cases making headlines in recent years. During the court's last term, justices ruled in favor of a Colorado baker in a similar situation, stating that a state body demonstrated improper hostility toward the baker's religion in finding that he violated a state anti-discrimination law.

A similar case involving Washington state florist Baronelle Stutzman previously was sent back so the state court could review its decision against Stutzman in light of the Colorado case. The Washington court upheld its decision, and the case is expected to go back before the Supreme Court once more.

    DEMOCRATS LOVE A GOOD HARVEST

The story that thrust a Rio Grande Valley city into the national spotlight is hardly a new anomaly, say residents.

“Down here, voter fraud is not all that unusual,” says Monte, a city planning consultant. “It’s unusual when they get prosecuted.”

Now, for this south Texas town, that unusual moment has arrived. A mayoral election has been under scrutiny from local and state officials, and 19 arrests have been made over alleged voter fraud.

The mayor—and winner of the 2017 election—was indicted, along with his wife.

Only 8,400 votes were cast in the mayoral election, and Mayor Richard Molina’s final vote count was more than 1,200 votes ahead of the No. 2 candidate, 14-year incumbent Richard Garcia.

Molina reportedly is the first elected official in Texas to face a felony charge under a 2017 statute against vote harvesting, casting the midsize city into the national debate over election integrity.

The reputation of the Rio Grande Valley, where the town of Edinburg is nestled, long precedes the mayor’s arrest.

The four border counties of Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, and Zapata have had executive officials, top law enforcement officials, a county judge, and a sheriff either indicted or convicted of criminal charges.

The U.S. Justice Department created a Rio Grande Valley Corruption Task Force, NPR reported, because the area was “steeped in corruption of every stripe: drug smuggling, vote stealing, courthouse bribery, under-the-table payoffs and health care fraud.”

Municipal elections are nonpartisan in this heavily DEMOCRAT area.

A new vacancy on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals is giving President Trump a new opportunity to alter the DNA of the once-famously liberal court.

Judge Carlos Bea is intending to take a step back and claim senior status on the Ninth Circuit, opening up a spot for a new full-time active judge. One possibility for the position is Patrick Bumatay, currently a federal prosecutor in the Southern District of California.

Bumatay was nominated to the circuit court last year, but California FEMOCRATS Sens. Kamala Harris and Dianne Feinstein objected and the Senate did not take action. Trump then nominated Bumatay to the Southern District of California Court instead, but a similar lack of progress leaves him available for Bea's seat on the bench.

While it is traditional for a nominee's home-state senators to give their approval, it is not required.

Bea’s departure from his active role on the bench gives Trump yet another chance to put his mark on the court. Trump has already placed six judges there, bringing the total number of Republican-appointed judges to 11. Bress, if he is confirmed, would bring the number to an even dozen.

At the end of the Obama administration, there were 19 DEMOCRAT-appointed judges on the Ninth Circuit. There are two more vacancies yet to be filled.

Indeed it is, Earl, despite the usual desperate deflection from dubious DEMOCRATS.

Default Clinton show bombs on Broadway

The curtain will be falling early on a Broadway play featuring Bill and Hillary Clinton as the lead characters because of poor ticket sales.

The play, “Hillary and Clinton,” which stars Laurie Metcalf as Hillary Clinton and John Lithgow as Bill Clinton, is set to close on June 23, nearly a month before its previously planned close on July 21, according to Hollywood Reporter.

A production by Scott Rudin, it is set in an alternate universe and is based on imagined interactions between Bill and Hillary Clinton in a New Hampshire hotel during the latter’s unsuccessful 2008 presidential campaign.

Despite the poor performance at the box office, the production earned a Tony nomination for Metcalf’s portrayal of the former secretary of (deep) state.

Hillary Clinton ended up losing the 2008 DEMOCRAT nomination battle to Barack Obama, who went on to become president. She launched another unsuccessful bid for president in 2016
