I've read nothing that suggests Houston's housing is expensive. Maybe I'm only comparing it to where I live though.

The author though is pointing out the housing issues of the large (coastal) cities where so many of the jobs are. Nothing against the G.O.A.T. but Columbus, Cinci, Ohio and Dayton aren't the job hubs SF & the Silicon Valley, LA, Seattle etc. are.

Living where I have for so long and working in the real estate industry and I've followed this topic for decades. You take a desirable area to live, good weather and great job opportunities, and then create huge barriers to building new housing and you end up with what we have currently.
The state LEGE is REPUBLICAN. Every municipality is as much controlled by the state gov as the local. Anyone need any better example than FLINT MICHIGAN?

PS For those who may not have heard. GOV RICK SNYDER, R-MI is back on the hook. I don't know the details but they have reopened some investigation about involving him! A longer version is all of those STATE EMPLOYEES under Snyder who were found GUILTY of all manner of charges, civil and criminal--were overturned last week. BUT they have asked all parties and the public to sit tight until the end of the month as it will be explained further. In the meantime they got hold of some SNYDER phones and records that weren't made available originally (?)

    It was very odd.

We've been over why affordable housing is hard to build and construct in CA; PROP 13!

Prop 13 makes it prohibitively expensive for developers and municipalities to build new, affordable housing because all the fees and costs are sky-high thanks to a stagnation of tax revenue from legacy properties.

The stagnation in revenue has to be made up somewhere; and that somewhere is almost always development, new construction, zoning fees, as well as regressive taxes.

So you can't talk about SB 50 without talking about Prop 13, since Prop 13 is the whole impetus for SB 50 in the first fucking place.

Lol, Cawacko, I don’t know who these two letter/number combination monikers are but they sure don’t like you. They’re like Desh on meth. One of them may be Desh using the name “Cawacky” and posting the same thing over and over. I haven’t checked. Hang in there though ... I’m sure you’ll win out!

I don't know who the fuck you think you are, but a Conservative faker coming on a message board posing as a Democrat to lend more support to failed Conservative ideas and positions is exactly the kind of shit-eating, teabag-wearing, red hat douchebag who has 1000s of IDs and accounts with which you astroturf support on anonymous message boards because you could never gather that many like-minded folks together in one place without it looking like the early bird dinner rush at Old Country Buffet in Bumblescum, Rednecksville, White Trash Welfare USA.

I get that too. But I'd say the problem is worse in the Bay Area than any other city. I had a friend that lived in a ranch house in Alamo, way outside of S.F. It was valued at over $1M more than 10 yrs. ago.

I went to SAN FRAN in about 82 on business. Went back to my coworkers apartment who was working on a project with me. 2 bedrooms, with a roommate. Small but impeccable and you could SAN FRAN bay. It was $1500 back then!
The medium home price in the Bay Area is $830K. If that's affordable to you then you are doing quite well for yourself. If you want to commute a couple of hours to places like Stockton and Tracy you can find "affordable" homes for $500K.

If you want to construct affordable housing in CA (which I'm not sure you actually want), simply repeal prop 13.

The real estate industry is perfect for con artists and crooks. Escalating housing costs are rooted in local corruption and wall street greed.

When this gets address, we can start to work on affordable housing.

Too may racist greedy fucks in that industry...……..it's exactly where yall's president came from.

Howard Arnold Jarvis (September 22, 1903 – August 12, 1986) was an American businessman, lobbyist, and politician. He was an anti-tax activist responsible for passage of California's Proposition 13 in 1978.

It's not the state that determines local zoning and land use laws. That's the whole point of SB 50 and why people are fighting it, it's take away some of the local control.

No he doesn't. If there were affordable housing there may be Blacks on his block.

Besides, he wouldn't be able to use the argument that wealthy liberals are more racist than republicans because they passed SB 50 to keep low income Blacks from having affordable housing.

    That's his entire argument.
