It is something I try to be mindful of when defending somebody on a subject I agree with them on... reminding myself to "use your brain all the time," as we tend to shut down the careful filter we might set up, say here or while watching a specific news outlet that may disagree with you editorially, when we tune in to those sources that tend to agree editorially. We then do not really see, for example, that fear mongering ad with grandma getting tossed off a cliff by a lookalike of the "bad guys" when we've rested that filter... Just because somebody agrees with your position doesn't mean they aren't "exaggerating" (read lying) to attempt to scare you into action (again not you personally, the royal "we" type of you).
I am not a stupid person, nor was I brought up in a family that advocated marching in lockstep with what we were told. Well, other than Mom who was probably the most devout Xtian -- in practice -- that I have ever known. BTW, that was not a slam, but a compliment.

At any rate we were taught by our horrid liberal school system, plus the angst and turmoil of the 60s, to question authority. I have tried to stay true to that throughout my life. This is why my post included the fact that the Left engages in fear-mongering just as the Right does. The difference that I can see is this. I'm aware of the propaganda and how it is trying to influence me. I will not march in lockstep with any political party, at least I try not to, no matter what they promise, for that reason.

From what I can see, though, of the RWers here and on other political boards and on other social media sites -- they don't seem to have the capacity to question what they're fed. They can only attack what is "other" -- the Left.

As a member of the Right side of the rainbow, maybe you could spend more time here offering a more nuanced and less belligerent POV of why you guys are on the Right? You'll probably get called a RINO and worse, but I promise you that at least a few of us here on the Left will listen and respond in a civil fashion.

You're only saying that because I kicked your ass here so many times. It's ok, one day you'll move out of your mom's basement and you'll be less angry.

You are correct. That is also an example of fascism.

They are effectively nationalized. The companies so controlled have no say in how they can operate. The only difference is who owns the title deed.

So America, Australia, and Canada. Australia and Canada are liberal and America is left-leaning.
Any country with a good living standard is going to be liberal or at least left-leaning.

Why don't you go visit one of those conservative countries you love so much? You might like Saudi Arabia.

Young people have ears. They can hear Trump stumbling along with his 5th-grade vocabulary. They can hear Trump showing absolute ignorance of the constitution and no respect for the law. Trump rules the gutless Red party. They are shocked as any fair observer would be by his actions such as sucking up to Putin. They also can see Trump works for the plutocrats.
Young people also see their generation is being looted by colleges who are saddling young people with an educational mortgage.

However, nationalizing the companies is taking the companies directly. Your insistence that happened is where you fail to relate with reality.

Had you said "effectively" before, and actually defined it we would not be here. What you said was wrong, what I said was correct and this post of yours simply recognizes that. Simply because they call themselves socialists doesn't make them socialists any more than East Germany calling themselves the "German Democratic Republic" made them Democratic.
Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but rather we have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.

Believe nothing on the faith of traditions, even though they have been held in honor for many generations and in diverse places. Do not believe a thing because many people speak of it. Do not believe on the faith of the sages of the past. Do not believe what you yourself have imagined, persuading yourself that a God inspires you. Believe nothing on the sole authority of your masters and priests. After examination, believe what you yourself have tested and found to be reasonable, and conform your conduct thereto.
