Jack; With your attitude, I don't YOU have actually done any Work. You're probably some chair-jockey in an AC Building that gets an hour for Lunch and has a Restroom.

    If you're lucky, there's a Port-a-Pot.

Yes, Jack, you’re correct. I did work in an air conditioned environment ... and I had a bathroom nearby that I shared with approximately 120 others. I didn’t spend much time in a chair though. I was too busy. I got 25 minutes for lunch except on the one day a week I have duty. It might be considered by some to be a cushy job ... a by some a challenging job. It even afforded me time off during the year so for two months out of most years I worked on a crew framing houses. Notice that’s all in the past tense.

I submitted my retirement letter in May. Now that leads me to my point in my original statement. Because there are not enough qualified people to do what I did I am agreeing to go back and work a reduced schedule instead of being fully retired. We have hundreds of jobs like mine in OK that are not getting filled. We battle the Republicans on one side for lack of funding and the Democrats on the other for over-regulation. But the bottom line is that we don’t have enough red blooded Americans who are willing to invest the time and effort ... to sacrifice for a few years to get the degree required to do it. So ... laziness in most cases. Oh, and you have to pass a drug test to hold my position ... so a few fall into that other category.

And that other job...I am on one of two white/American Indian crews around here. The others are Hispanic. We’re all good friends. We loan each other tools and eat lunch together when we’re in close proximity. I respect them because they believe as I do ... that if a person is going to make a living he’s going to have to work for it. They see the value in an honest day’s work.

You’re retiring from teaching? Not that you have to share but was this something you had been planning for awhile or more a recent decision?

I’ve been planning to for a while. 32 years ... that’s a long time. I’m 53 and still physically sound. I plan to frame houses with my friends while looking/waiting for an opening with the Oklahoma Wildlife Department. Fewer griping parents plus I want to spend more time outdoors ... hopefully disking and planting. It’s a goal.

Do you think Democrats don't work? Do you really? I see why you are a righty. Unemployment down to 4. Does that tell you people do not want to work? Why are they taking jobs then?

Jack: Do you think it's a Good Idea to bring in Third World Labor to replace Construction Workers in America because you and your friends earn too much money building things?

Jack: Another government job that you can never be fired from, ... sounds about right. (Love how you deadbeats complain about others "being lazy")

Did I say that? Someone said I sounded like a capitalist and I made that statement you quoted. I said nothing about party affiliation in my response. I know lazy republicans too.

I’m a “righty” because I don’t believe in socialism to the level of people who are advancing in the Democratic Party. I’m a “righty” because I believe abortion is one of the most vile, despicable causes to champion. I’m a “righty” because I believe in gun rights with minimal government intrusion. But I’m not a “righty” because I believe a person should work for a living. At least it’s news to me if that now makes a person a “righty.”

With the disjointed way of responding to posts I had missed this until my son pointed it out to me.

    You are very clairvoyant...

Leaning: "It might be considered by some to be a cushy job ..."
Jack: Yeah. I'm guessing you felt you weren't paid enough?
Nope. I’ve never complained about the pay. I knew what I was going to make before I ever chose this profession. Some of my unionized peers are the ones you would want to hang that tired old line on.

Once again, I know what I’m going to be paid framing houses going in. I never complain about the pay. And it is more than good enough pay to live on. As much or more as I make as a teacher. All you have to do is be willing to show up every day and work. Oh, and pass the occasional drug test. And the crew of Hispanic workers are citizens. A couple have obtained their citizenship since we have become acquainted. But they’re all citizens who are willing to do the job which places them a might higher on my scale of people than the white folks I know who are unwilling to do the same and are always trying to get on some sort of government dole.

You are without a doubt one of, if not the most rational posters on this board. I enjoy reading what you write. Down to earth always and pure common sense.

Your job as a 'Teacher' was protected from Third World Labor because you were protected by the Government. The job you want with 'Oklahoma Wildlife Department' is protected from Third World Labor by the Government. Why don't you stay framing houses and face competition from Third World Labor? Why not stay in the framing houses business and have your wages driven down by Third World Labor?

You know, Leaning. I'm getting the opinion you don't want to face competition for Wages. You just want some guaranteed job with a Health Plan and a Pension Plan and paid days off.
