"On this point the Company was in agreement with Franklin, for in 1667 it had advocated an alteration of the duties to prevent
smuggling,(66) and in the beginning of 1773 it urged the abolition of the duty of 3d. a pound on tea in America, which Lord North's ministry insisted on retaining.(67)"

The EIC was founded by wealthy Merchants of London. Probably similar in viewpoint as the Founding Fathers.

Up until the time of 1773, the EIC couldn't directly unload their foreign cargo in the Colonies, it had to be sold to Merchants in England first, then resold to the Colonies with a 3 pence tax added. Both the EIC and the Colonies felt the 3 pence tax was unfair.
In truth, the colonists saw the duty free sale of EIC tea as an implicit admission of Parliament's right of taxation. This was assumed to be part of the reason why Parliament wrote the act, which followed the Declaratory Act, passed after the Townsend repeal, that asserted that Parliament had the right to tax the colonists.

So, you're probably correct that there was no specific contempt for the EIC.

Facts don't care about your feelings TD. The United States is a corporation. So is the state that you live in and the state that I live in. Each federal department of the United states is a corporation.

You're too quick on the trigger.

Perhaps in some ways, but then we seemed to have taken over the far flung realm it's self, the British Empire & it's role of dividing, conquering etc.. One of the first acts was overthrowing the democratically elected leader in Iran.........

I recall thinking Reagan would revive mercantilism, as many American corps dwarf the economies of much of the fourth world countries as well as many 3rd world countries..

It is really sad that some in our country have more trust & respect for foreign adversarial leaders than our own loyal opposition.

Should I assume that most of you are familiar with Dunn & Bradstreet? The DUNS number for the UNITED STATES government is:

    052714196

Each major department of the federal government is also a corporation. Some examples:

US Department of Defense (DOD) 030421397

US Department of the Treasury 026661067

National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) 003259074

Each State is also a corporation, even though some of them are incorporated in other states. A few random selections with their major cities:

Alabama 0040227553 City of Birmingham 074239450

Arizona 068300170 City of Phoenix 030002236

But you can check out the DUNS number of any of the federal, state and local governments @: mycredit.dnb.search-for-duns-numbers/

Jack: So, basically the EIC, but under a different name?

Old Europe was governed by Kings. The EIC was governed by a 'Director' and a 'Board'.
The US never had a 'King', It's always had a Director (President) and a Board (Congress) elected by the Shareholders (Property Owners).

It's just a simple question. Where did the US Flag originate? It seems to be a mystery.

"On January 1, 1776, the Continental Army was reorganized in accordance with a Congressional resolution, which placed American forces under George Washington's control. On that New Year's Day the Continental Army was laying siege to Boston, which had been taken over by the British Army. Washington ordered the Grand Union flag hoisted above his base at Prospect Hill. It had 13 alternate red and white stripes and the British Union Jack in the upper left corner (the canton)."

That's the Flag of the East India Company.

"The flag of the East India Company represented the British East India Company between 1600 and 1874. The flag was altered as the nation changed from England to Great Britain to the United Kingdom. It was initially a red and white striped ensign with the flag of England in canton. Wikipedia"
