    Default America's 50 largest cities....

    ....are mostly controlled by Democrats.

    Ind = 3

    Rep = 14

    Dem = 33

    List of mayors of the 50 largest cities in the United States

    Obviously, when it comes to local issues and how our day to day lives are affected, the vast majority of Americans prefer Democratic leadership over Republican by an overwhelming margin.

    But, by the same token, because the vast majority of major cities, even those in Republican controlled red states are run by Democrat Mayors, when some right-wing simpleton propaganda spewer wants to denigrate and impugn Democrats, it's very easy to find imperfections and flaws that are an inevitable part of big city life, then mischaracterize them as symptomatic or emblematic of incompetence by Democratic city leadership.

    When one examines these claims more closely, the typical dishonest nature of the right's bullshit always becomes apparent.

    The battle for truth over the non-stop right-wing bullshit machine is a never ending struggle.

    This divide has probably existed since the 1830s.

    Among reactionaries, tories, and teabaggers the large urban areas were always perceived to be associated with the Irish, the Italians, the Jews, the "darkies", the w*tbacks, the puerto ricans, et al.

    While the hinterlands were the last best vestige of pure Anglo-Saxon culture.

    It’s kind of the way the world works dude. When you’re in power, the boss, the coach etc. you get credit for the good and blame for the bad.

    Saying I want credit for the good but no blame for the bad isn’t reality.

    And yes Democrats do run most big cities in this country and many of them they’ve run for a long time. When you’ve had political control over a city for say 50 years it’s pretty hard to claim your policies haven’t had an affect, for better or worse, on the current condition of the City.

    Its weird how Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Tucker Carlson, et al. forever sing the praises of the flyover states, but they all choose to live in New York, DC, south Florida, or somewhere on the east coast. I do not think any of these rich wingnuts are shopping for houses in Wyoming or Kansas.

    Interesting seeing Austin rated the number one city. I was there this weekend for my brother-in-law‘s wedding. Talked to some old UT guys in their early 60’s. They said when they were in school Austin was a small hippie college town. Over the past 20 years or so it has experienced a massive growth, including a huge influx of Californians.

    People were saying infrastructure growth has not kept up with the population growth. And thus traffic has become horrible and quality of life has gone down in their opinions. Austin, not unlike San Francisco, is known for its anti-development attitude/believes.

    Now not all liberals are anti development and not all conservatives are pro development. But policy wise you are generally going to find more pro growth policies in republican backed areas. Interesting to hear what’s going on in Austin.

    Guess where almost all my rightwing, tea bag, and conservative colleagues dreamed of moving to? That's right....liberal Austin. Not conservative Midland or conservative College Station. But liberal hippie Austin. They practically begged our corporate overlords to move company headquarters to Austin.

    So as much as Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and other wingnuts proclaim the superiority of flyover country, they seem to have an affinity for living among liberals and in liberal areas.

    A cursory internet search indicates the current and former mayors of Grand Rapids are members of the Democratic Party.
    Mayor George Heartwell
    and Mayor Rosalyn Bliss

    Florida is arguable the trashiest state in the country. New Jersey can give it a run but funny to see the argument that it’s high brow to live in that sh*t hole.

    And Hannity was born in NYC and his job is based there. Not sure why he would leave. I mean because folks don’t hold their noses at middle America doesn’t mean you have to live there.

    Reading this again I’m still trying to understand the point. Most of us are aware urban areas tend to be more liberal and more suburban and rural areas often lean Republican. But there are republicans, like myself, who live in urban areas. And there are democrats who live in the burbs and rural areas. We aren’t completely segregated, yet at least, about where we live based on how we vote.
