Due in large part to the human "traffic jam" along the final path leading to the summit of Mt Everest, seven people, all of whom paid an $11,000 permit fee each, plus other related expenses for the privilege of doing so, have died over the past week, from lack of oxygen while standing in line.
And you thought the lines at Disney World were bad!!!!
While I do not celebrate or take pleasure in the untimely death of any otherwise decent person, I also have no sympathy for these folks either.
The first guy who, in the past week, was reported to have died after reaching the top, the one from Utah who collapsed while taking pictures, had already lost fingers on one hand to frostbite during some previous climb.
But apparently, that wasn't enough to convince him that what he was doing was stupid.
The only thing I can surmise about these morons, is that they must all harbor a death wish.
Besides, given what these selfish jerks have turned Everest into....
...the world's highest elevation garbage dump/sewer/cemetary... I hardly feel that what they're doing is in any way even defensible much less sympathetic.
Afaic, every one of those fools who die up there got what they asked for.

I doubt these guys would want anyone's sympathy.
They undoubtedly knew the risks involved, and purposefully made the choice to take the risk.
Just my two cents
If I were younger and wealthy enough to afford it, I might travel there just to stay at a hotel near the foot of the mountain.
Maybe climb to one of the lower level base camps just to be there, admire the view and hang out with the climbers.
But no matter how athletic I was, I'd NEVER attempt to reach the top.
Fuck that shit.
C'MON MAN!!!!
I cant believe I agree with SoMad... I'm jumping off a bridge later today...

I am going to make it to Tibet someday, but never had the slightest interest in mountaineering.
I have nothing bad to say about people who have the money, the interest, the capability, and are willing to take the risk to summit Mount Everest. Everyone has their own priorities and interests in this life. People evolve too. I went from an affinity for backpacking to preferring four star hotels!
The only thing that I think kind of sucks is all the trash people seem to be leaving on the mountain.
