Common sense is not a gift, it's a punishment because you have to deal with everyone who doesn't have it.

I owned several, at the same time, during the early 70s and I loved them.

One of them was a Van.

My first car was a Corvair, fun to drive, but didn't have Park on the shifter, and if you put on the emergency brake it would freeze in the winter. So I carried a brick to keep it from rolling.
The other thing, was it had one long skinny belt that constantly fell off,to long to get it to stay tight.
But it was a great first car.

I never saw one without the transmission park gear.
I also never had any problems with the belt.

The only problem I ever had, was with the fuel pump; because it sat right over the oil pan and if the seals went out, it dumbed gas into the oil.

Problem solved though, by capping off the mechanical fuel pump opening and adding an electric fuel pump.

I bought one for $50; because the owner thought his son had ruined the transmission by trying to slam it from reverse into 1st.

Took it home, jacked up the car, took off the shifter cover plate, and put the shifter back into the shifter arm cup.

I also had one that I took the drive cover off and replace the gears with a Posi traction set up.

I didn't read the book. The movies are hardly ever as good as the book but we can hope...

Isn't that the car made famous by Ralph Nader's "Unsafe At Any Speed?"
