Default Brennan to brief Democrats on Iran

House Democrats will hear from former CIA director John Brennan about the situation in Iran, inviting him to speak next week amid heightened concerns over the Trump administration’s sudden moves in the region.

Brennan, an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump, is scheduled to talk to House Democrats at a private weekly caucus meeting Tuesday, according to a Democratic aide and another person familiar with the private meeting. Both were granted anonymity to discuss the meeting.

The invitation to Brennan and Wendy Sherman, the former State Department official and top negotiator of the Iran nuclear deal, offers counterprogramming to the Trump administration’s closed-door briefing for lawmakers also planned for Tuesday on Capitol Hill. Democratic lawmakers are likely to attend both sessions.

The Trump administration recently sent an aircraft carrier and other military resources to the Persian Gulf region, and withdrew nonessential personnel from Iraq, raising alarm among Democrats and some Republicans on Capitol Hill over the possibility of a confrontation with Iran.

Trump in recent days downplayed any potential for conflict. But questions remain about what prompted the actions and many lawmakers have demanded more information.

Trump and Brennan have clashed openly, particularly over the issues surrounding the special counsel’s probe of Russian interference in the 2016 election. Brennan stepped down from the CIA in 2017.

The president last year said he was revoking the former spy chief’s security credentials after Brennan was critical of Trump’s interactions with Russian President Vladimir Putin at a summit in Helsinki. Top national security officials often retain their clearance after they have left an agency as a way to provide counsel to their successors.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had been asking the administration for a briefing for all lawmakers on the situation in Iran, but she said the request was initially rebuffed. The administration provided a classified briefing for top leaders of both parties last week.

Somebody needs to stuff a sock in Brennans mouth.. WTF is "counterprogramming to the Trump administration’s closed-door briefing for lawmakers"

Look i'm not sure about this "credible threat" either, but the last thing I would listen to is a partisan hack-Trump hater like Brennan who's security clearance was pulled.

Instead I would call Bolton or Pompeo into closed door testimony -Brennen can only offer screed at this point

Brennan has criticized Trump and talked about his belief there was collusion in "plain sight" between the president and Russia. He also called Trump's behavior "treasonous."

Trump revoked a security clearance belonging John Brennan in August, claiming his "erratic behavior" should disqualify him from having access to sensitive information.

A few weeks ago, Brennan appeared on MSNBC predicting more indictments as part of Mueller's investigation. But those never came to pass.

On Sunday, Attorney General William Barr shared a four-page summary of Mueller’s findings with Congress, which stated the investigation found no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Answering for his hyping of the Mueller report, Brennan said Monday, "I don't know if I received bad information, but I think I suspected there was more than there actually was."

U.S. allies involved in operations in the Middle East appear uninterested in the increasingly bellicose rhetoric from the White House and Pentagon regarding Iran.

I can see why Trumpf supported the invasion of Iraq, and is now resorting to the same NeoCon methods of hyping and exaggerating the threat, misleading the American public, beating the war drums, and heedlessly ignoring the lessons of the recent past.

Let’s be clear. I don’t support going to war with dirty muslimes

We can bankrupt them with our fossil fuel production. Then they will kill themselves. Win win.

you don't know that -neither does any of us. I suggest you cool it with the unfounded rhetoric.

There could be threats from Syria, on the Straight, in Iraq - because we DO KNOW Iran is the regional hegemon.

Gang of 8 briefing this coming Tues - we'll know more when they leak it
