What Barr would hope to show is that Comey et al. wanted Carter Page under surveillance for political rather than national security reasons.

This would raise some awkward questions. What political secrets about the Trump campaign was the FBI hoping to discover? What made them think they could learn political secrets from Page, who had left the campaign by then and had never been more than a bit player? What use did they have in mind for these political secrets, considering that - if they ever acquired any -they never did anything with them?

Do you begin to see some of the difficulties of converting Hannity's line-shooting into a legal case that would not be laughed out of court?
