Before Trump confronted China on their trade practices were there tariffs in place between China and the US?

Not sure what the tariffs were, but the trade deficit with China was smaller than it is now.

I'm old enough to remember when Conservatives and Trump said they would reduce the Trade Deficit.

"We have almost an $800 billion a year trade deficit with other nations," Drumpf said in November 2017. "Unacceptable. We are going to start whittling that down and as fast as possible."

By increasing the Trade Deficit to a record high?

How is that doing the right thing when he said this in November 2017: "We have almost an $800 billion a year trade deficit with other nations," Drumpf said in November 2017. "Unacceptable. We are going to start whittling that down and as fast as possible."

    "I'm good enough

    I'm smart enough

And doggone it, people like me"

You should repeat that mantra instead. At least if you did, you wouldn't be at risk of shooting up a public place like so many of your kind have already.

Yes...Red China has had massive tariffs on US autos since forever, as one example. 25% , while we charged 2.5% on imported cars...
TRUMP WILL TAKE FORTY STATES...UNLESS THE SAME IDIOTS WHO BROUGHT US THE 2020 DUNCE-O-CRAT IOWA CLUSTERFUCK CONTINUE THEIR SEDITIOUS ACTIVITIES...THEN HE WILL WIN EVEN MORE ..UNLESS THE RED CHINESE AND DNC COLLUDE, USE A PANDEMIC, AND THEN THE DEMOCRATS VIOLATE ARTICLE II OF THE CONSTITUTION, TO FACILLITATE MILLIONS OF ILLEGAL, UNVETTED, MAIL IN BALLOTS IN THE DARK OF NIGHT..

Yes. Europe, China and the US all had tariffs prior to the talks (as did most countries). It varies by sector and country, but on average the US is about 1%, Europe 2% and China 4% (though some sectors are at 25%). These are very rough averages. But good enough to give you a sense of how far off the tariff wars are.

Since Trump's & the GOP's Tariffs, the Trade Deficit has widened to its largest level ever.

This, after Trump said: "We have almost an $800 billion a year trade deficit with other nations," Drumpf said in November 2017. "Unacceptable. We are going to start whittling that down and as fast as possible."
