A Sad Departure

In my pre-teenage years I spent hours listening to disc jockeys playing music on the radio. To this day I can identify the vocalist the instant I hear the voice male or female.

There were so many great big band vocalists it is impossible to say which one was the best. I would put Doris Day among the top ten female vocalists. I must have been 8 years old when I heard her sing the song that made her famous.

I do not know how many of those vocalists from the big band era are still alive, but every one of them is missed by the old folks who grew up listening to music on the radio. Sad to say, future generations will never know what they missed.
