As lieutenant governor, Gavin Newsom supported a 2017 bill increasing the state's gas taxes. When running for governor in 2018, he opposed a ballot initiative that would have repealed that same increase. It's 2019, and Newson, now the state's governor, is demanding an investigation into why the state's gas prices are so high.
On Tuesday, the governor sent a letter to the California Energy Commission (CEC) asking that the state agency investigate the Golden State's roughly $4.03 per gallon gas prices, currently the highest in the country (and well above the national average of $2.86 per gallon)

Like they say, “You can’t make this crap up.”
They dont need an investigation. Just a mirror.

It's $3.99 here in PA. Our previous Governor raised the gas taxes to finance infrastructure repairs and new projects, I think it pissed a lot of people off and he lost reelection.

I love California, but it is the rich elite Hollywood fooks who love to raise taxes, on everything. And they honestly think they are helping those who are less fortunate. It is truly mind boggling how stupid the wealthy elite are.
Hard to believe these politicians are so dumb and dishonest. So they RAISE the tax by 17 cents a gallon, then demand an investigation into why gas prices in CA are now above $4?
Gas taxes
Existing: The base excise tax is 18 cents a gallon. A price-based excise tax is currently set at 9.8 cents a gallon, for a total rate of 27.8 cents a gallon.
Nov. 1, 2017: The base excise tax will increase to 30 cents a gallon.
July 1, 2019: The price-based excise tax will reset to 17.3 cents a gallon, about half-a-cent more than the rate the Brown administration projects will be in effect by then anyway.
The 47.3-cent combined excise tax in effect July 1, 2019 will be adjusted for inflation beginning July 1, 2020.

I demand higher taxes for California!
No, I'm not complaining, but the detours are a pain in the ass. I live out of town, but in town, they're redoing the main roads and the detours are routed through town. Trucks are prohibited and there's signs posted miles before town pointing out the truck detour, but some go through and tear up the streetcorners.
I can avoid some of it by running the back roads, but not all of it. Oh well...
