The actual Louvre structure, the building itself, especially the exterior, is stunning. Everybody crowds in to see the post card size Mona Lisa when actually the Wedding at Cana painting directly across filling the opposite wall is more impressive. Got to say though after awhile it is difficult to take anymore religious themed paints

I agree. If you look at art itself, one does not always take in the entire picture. I like to look at the details. That is why I cannot look at abstract art.

Me too! Can't do an exact reproduction, materialwise, but it HAS to stay in the original century's style. If the Freedom statue fell off the US Capitol dome you wouldn't put a Calder mobile on top to replace the statue.

I immediately thought they would replicate what was there, it was just a knee-jerk reaction. But now I'm hearing different opinions.
I guess it would make sense to use light-weight aluminum structural members and fire-proofing.
The 'Spire'. That might take on a special meaning. I'm starting to think it WON'T be a Cross.
