I agree. If you look at art itself, one does not always take in the entire picture. I like to look at the details. That is why I cannot look at abstract art.

Any creative people here on JPP that want to give suggestions for a '21st-century twist atop a 12th-century creation'?
Take the moral high ground, Jack, and petition to replace the spire with a Minaret. You know it's what you really want.

BTW, the spire was added in the 1800's.

Socialism is just the modern word for monarchy.

D.C. has become a Guild System with an hierarchy and line of accession much like the Royal Court or priestly classes.

Private citizens are perfectly able of doing a better job without "apprenticing".

" “Notre Dame represents a historically, architecturally, and spiritually, outstanding universal heritage. It is also a monument of literary heritage, a place that is unique in our collective imagination”, said the UNESCO chief, adding that the inferno which engulfed the cathedral, but appears to have left the medieval stonework intact, “reminds us of the power of heritage that connects us to one another. We are receiving messages of support from all over the world.” "

"The cathedral, where construction began in the 1160s extending for more than a century, is considered to be the finest example of the French Gothic style of architecture, with its groundbreaking use of rib vaults and buttresses, stained glass rosettes and sculpted ornaments."

A World Heritage site. It may come back as a more secular Monument?
"After visiting the site of Notre Dame on Monday night Ms. Azoulay said “we are all heartbroken.” The Cathedral is part of the World Heritage site officially known as “Paris, Banks of the Seine”, inscribed on the World Heritage List, in 1991."

Me too! Can't do an exact reproduction, materialwise, but it HAS to stay in the original century's style. If the Freedom statue fell off the US Capitol dome you wouldn't put a Calder mobile on top to replace the statue.

No telling what the Spire could look like, or even if there is a Spire. (?)
Still looks 'weird to me there but no one asked me. And I LIKE glass, pyramids, and Pei's work. Oh well, to each their own.

I immediately thought they would replicate what was there, it was just a knee-jerk reaction. But now I'm hearing different opinions.
I guess it would make sense to use light-weight aluminum structural members and fire-proofing.
The 'Spire'. That might take on a special meaning. I'm starting to think it WON'T be a Cross.
