Default Notre Dame Spire: Cross ... or something else?

    "PARIS —
France on Wednesday announced it would invite architects from around the world to submit designs for replacing the spire of Notre-Dame cathedral after a devastating blaze, as the government braced for a mammoth restoration challenge."
    https://www.voanews.com/a/france-lau...e/4880095.html

"The fire that nearly destroyed Notre Dame has presented France with a fundamental choice: rebuild the cathedral almost exactly as it was or update one of the world’s most beloved monuments for the modern age."

Leave it the same. You know what happens when government gets involved with anything.

Let's not rush into this Sailor. What if Saudi Arabia donated ONE BILLION EUROS, ... with the stipulation it would open as an Islamic Center? (Didn't they do that in NYC?)

Forget that crap. This a beautiful historical Cathedral. Architecturally astounding. Notre Dame Cathedral means more to people historically and architecturally than religiously. Saudi's.....pffffffffffffft.

"But Prime Minister Édouard Philippe upended expectations with an announcement of an international competition to replace the iconic spire that collapsed into Monday’s inferno. He also raised the prospect of a 21st-century twist atop a 12th-century creation."

Any creative people here on JPP that want to give suggestions for a '21st-century twist atop a 12th-century creation'?

That may be what is behind the current thinking.

    For example:
"The Louvre Pyramid (Pyramide du Louvre) is a large glass and metal pyramid designed by Chinese-American architect I. M. Pei, surrounded by three smaller pyramids, in the main courtyard (Cour Napoléon) of the Louvre Palace (Palais du Louvre) in Paris. The large pyramid serves as the main entrance to the Louvre Museum. Completed in 1989,[1] it has become a landmark of the city of Paris."
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louvre_Pyramid

No telling what the Spire could look like, or even if there is a Spire. (?)

Absurdity; a sure sign of the last desperate refuge for liars, fools and ignorance; and those who have lost their arguments. Yay you!

Solution is easy, a combination of the two

Heard today that France doesn't even have the same Oak trees that the original burnt ceiling infrastructure employed 800 years ago, they are going to have to improvise

The actual Louvre structure, the building itself, especially the exterior, is stunning. Everybody crowds in to see the post card size Mona Lisa when actually the Wedding at Cana painting directly across filling the opposite wall is more impressive. Got to say though after awhile it is difficult to take anymore religious themed paints
