Notre Dame was a symbol of Christendom in Europe for many centuries. But then, Christendom in Europe is all but gone so it was oddly fitting that the cathedral would burn.

My wife, who is very religious, said, God let this happen for a reason. She's not wrong. Of course, none of us can begin to speculate what that reason may or may not be. And if we did, we would most likely be wrong.
