Now, it's easy to survive (100x productivity in recent decades) and trivial to get knowledge (Internet). Technology can pay for a lot of bad economics.

Norway and Sweden are really welfare states, not socialist states. For example, The Swedish government pays for whatever school you want to go to, but doesn't run the school. Sweden ranks 15th among the freest markets in the world, the US ranks 18.
