    Default "manufactured" border crisis

It was January of 2019. The federal government had just shut down.
The president said we needed a border wall. The Democrats scoffed at him. They claimed the entire immigration crisis was "manufactured." The news media heartily weighed in on that debate. In case you can't remember whose side the media took, they called it, in clip after clip, a "manufactured crisis."

All together now: "manufactured crisis." Six syllables. Learn them, dear robots. Repeat them until they seem plausible. Move on, they will never remember you lied. And that's exactly what the news media did. It's what they always do.

. In the last month, 76,000 illegal aliens crossed the U.S.-Mexico border -- the highest number in a decade. That's more than the entire population of San Francisco or Boston or Washington, D.C., every single year, coming by foot, over just one of our international borders. That is a crisis, manufactured or not.

How are the people in charge responding to this crisis? Well, they are still lying -- and not just lying, because that's never enough for them. They are lying and sneering at the same time, all with maximum self-righteousness. They are selling us a steaming load of BS and screaming at us for not believing it.

On Wednesday, DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen put it in perspective. She said that illegal arrivals at the Mexican border are set to hit one million by the end of this fiscal year. More illegals will come in the first six months of 2019, this year, than came in all of 2017. That's a crisis. It's also a humanitarian catastrophe.

"Today's migrant flows have created a humanitarian catastrophe," she said. "In one study, more than 30 percent of women reported sexual assault along the way and 70 percent of all migrants reported experiencing violence. Very unfortunately, because of the increase in violence at ICE, when we have families with children, we have to give every girl a pregnancy test over 10. This is not a safe journey."

Meanwhile, the border degrades, and unaccompanied minors keep showing up here. Word has gotten out that almost nobody will ever be deported from this country, just claim asylum and get released.

Everyone in Central America knows this. Why wouldn't they? Since 2000, the number of pending immigration court cases has gone from barely 100,000 to more than 800,000. About 22 million illegal immigrants already live in the United States. That's more people than the populations of 16 U.S. states combined. That is more than the entire New York City metropolitan area, just of people here illegally.

President Donald Trump’s threat to close down the southern border with Mexico isn’t a sign of strength, but of frustration fading into desperation.

He is reacting with understandable alarm at a spiraling migrant crisis on the border, and he’s looking to Mexico to address it because we are unwilling to do it on our own — not unable, unwilling.

There were more than 100,000 apprehensions at the border in March, an increase from the 76,000 in February. The numbers for both months were the highest in 10 years. The total for the fiscal year could hit a million, a historic surge completely overwhelming our capabilities.

We built our border facilities to hold single men, back when illegal migrants were largely adult males from Mexico, rather than family units from Central America. This means that they are ill-suited for the needs of women and children.
the sheer numbers are leading to authorities releasing migrants almost as soon as they are caught.

’s not that border control has been tried and failed; it hasn’t been tried. Thanks to court decrees and congressional enactments, we don’t permit ourselves to quickly return minors from Central American countries, or to detain them for any significant period of time. They get released, along with the adults accompanying them.

The asylum process is broken. The initial so-called credible-fear interview to determine whether asylum-seekers get to the next step of the process approves almost all of them, even if they are unlikely ultimately to win asylum. In the meantime, they are waved into the country and probably never removed.

The migrants coming in increasing numbers realize that we are helpless to exclude them and, indeed, surrender to Border Patrol agents when they get here.

Congress could fix all this in an afternoon, with a few key changes in the law
Trump has a Nancy Pelosi problem much more than an Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador problem.
But, since Pelosi is unmovable, Trump has to try to work the Mexican president, known by his initials, AMLO.

Mexico has done more to play ball with the U.S. under Trump than most people would have thought possible, yet all the migrants showing up at our border are still traveling through the country.
Mexico doesn’t make controlling these migrants a high priority because they will end up here, not there.

The talk of cutting off the border isn’t aimed at the migrants, who largely don’t come through ports of entry, but at forcing the Mexican government to do more. Maybe the mere threat of the resulting economic disruption will work.

In a more rational world, Congress would take seriously the spectacle of U.S. officials — and humanitarian organizations — scrambling to handle a flood of humanity showing up every day. It would give them the legal authorities and resources to get the situation under control. That it won’t is a dereliction of duty of the highest order.

The number of families crossing into the United States is driving the largest number apprehensions at the southern border since 2005.

“CBP is facing an unprecedented humanitarian and border security crisis all along our Southwest Border,” said McAleenan. “And nowhere has that crisis manifested more acutely than here in El Paso Sector. Here in El Paso, we have almost 3,500 migrants in custody this morning, in facilities designed for many fewer. We had over 1,000 apprehensions on Monday. The vast majority are families from Central America.”

Nationwide, CBP had more than 12,000 migrants in custody this week. The agency considers 4,000 to be a high number of migrants in custody and 6,000 to be at a crisis level. More than 12,000 migrants in custody is unprecedented.

CBP is on pace to record more than 100,000 apprehensions for the month of March. It would be the highest monthly total in a decade.

The increase is having a detrimental impact on CBP’s primary border security mission. With up to 40 percent or more of CBP personnel working to care for, transport, and process vulnerable families and children, CBP’s security posture on the border is negatively impacted. The same transnational criminal organizations and smugglers that exploit and profit from migrants benefit from that reduced border enforcement presence. Smugglers and criminal organizations are using large groups of families as diversions.

There is no "border crisis" nor is there any "national emergency" with regards to it.

It's all just more Trump lies and propaganda designed to keep his drooler base riled up.

TTexas Senate declares migrant surge an emergency
    https://www.texastribune.org/2019/04...rge-emergency/
Republican state senators passed a resolution that would declare a crisis at the Texas-Mexico border and request Congress to fully fund border security measures. Democratic senators say they never saw the measure until it hit the floor.

From that photo, it looks like a fence is working.

Common sense is not a gift, it's a punishment because you have to deal with everyone who doesn't have it.

And of course, like the bullshit rwnj "news" sources you parrot, you don't bother to tell the entire story.

What he actually said was that Trump is dropping the ball on his foreign policy which fails to address the issues that are causing the border crisis which has become worse under this administration than it has been in over a dozen years.

that's true. THE DHS guy is saying we have to attack the problems at it roots ( which we do anyways by USAID)
but he is also saying we have a crisis at the border - a REAL crisis not Pelosi and Dems "manufactured crisis"

so lets agree we got a crisis. now how do we solve it?

The crisis was, in fact, manufactured by Trump's policy that, for all anyone knows, may have been purposely and intentionally designed to create the very same crisis he's now using to gin up public opinion amongst his base, in support of building his wall.

Trump has lied so much and behaved in such a slimy, sleazy, underhanded manner, that it's impossible not to acknowledge the distinct possibility, if not probability, that he and his team of low-life criminals have manufactured this "crisis" for his own personal political gain.

That means a decade ago there were more.

It wasn't a crisis then. What has changed?

    Let's review, shall we?

We have very low unemployment and a lot of unfilled jobs.

We have a lot of highly motivated and willing would-be workers trying to get in.

Our economy is not achieving the activity levels the President hoped for.

We could use more people paying in to Social Security.

    ....

I wonder if somehow these problems might be able to be combined into one sensible solution???

    Ya THINK???
