they love capitalism
they just know it has to be properly fettered with regulations and taxing
Casual observers of Norway might tell you that this is primarily the result of their $1 trillion social wealth fund, which was seeded by oil revenue from the North Sea. But that fund was not established until 1990 and did not receive its first inflow of cash until 1996. As you can see in the graph above, the Norwegian government already owned 40 percent of the national wealth prior to the creation of the oil fund.
In addition to its oil fund, which is exclusively invested outside of the country, the Norwegian government owns around one-third of the domestic stock market and 70 state-owned enterprises, which were valued at 88 percent of the country’s annual GDP in 2012. There is little doubt that, in terms of state ownership at least, Norway is the most socialist country in the developed world and, not coincidentally, the happiest country in the world according to the UN’s 2017 World Happiness Report. i say yes

Hello Wilhelm Zenz,
Good Thread.
World Happiness Report by the UN: " Four countries have held the top spot in the last four reports: Denmark, Switzerland, Norway and now Finland. All the top countries tend to have high values for all six of the key variables that have been found to support well-being: income, healthy life expectancy, social support, freedom, trust and generosity. Among the top countries, differences are small enough that year-to-year changes in the rankings are to be expected." - wiki
Maybe the USA needs to move more toward allowing We The People to own the largest share of corporate wealth in the USA, instead of they the oligarchs.

Great discussion, William Zenz:
Hartmann is spot-on.
How could a rich person be happy paying 55% income tax in a progressive taxation system? Why would such a person not want to organize a tax revolt?
These questions were put to a very rich German capitalist, a country where the AVERAGE wage paid to VW workers is $54/hr.
And the answer just shut down the conversation:
"I do not want to be a rich man in a poor country."
That's the difference between a greedy capitalist and someone who understands the value of sharing the wealth by mixing some socialism in with the capitalism. The sharing person 'gets it.' He gets the big picture. He thinks of other people besides himself. He sees the value of a system that works for everybody.

Norway is state capitalism, not state socialism.
