Default U.S. Deserves A Leader As Good As New Zealand Prime Minister: NYT Editorial Board

Jacinda Ardern “has shown the way” for other world leaders by banning military-style weapons after the mass shooting in Christchurch, the board says.

The New York Times editorial board praised New Zealand’s crackdown on military-style weapons after last week’s mass shooting as the U.S. neglects to take such action after dozens of them.

On Thursday, in an op-ed titled “America Deserves a Leader as Good as Jacinda Ardern,” the board applauded the New Zealand prime minister’s ban on the guns in the wake of the attack on two Christchurch mosques in which 50 people were killed.

“That attitude stood in stark contrast to the way the National Rifle Association and its political allies in the United States have resisted any restrictions on weapons like the AR-15, the semiautomatic rifle used in several mass killings,” the Times board wrote, denouncing U.S. politicians’ ties to the gun lobby.

We do, but ain't happening, too much private money and special interests involved in American politics, no one who can actually initiate change is ever going to take a courageous stand on an issue.

Guns is a good example, if first, second, and third grade kids getting massacred by semi-automatic weapons didn't do it nothing will

Do you know how long the AR-15 has been around for civilian use?

New Zealand has nothing comparable to the 2nd amendment as a right to own arms. Pretty simple no matter how the left tries to spin it.

And bloodletting existed for centuries as a believed cure for diseases, does that mean it was legitimate?

How many times do you have to explain the Constitution to people that tell everyone they love the Constitution?

I won't even go into the prefatory clause again, goes right over their head, but the fact is no Constitutional right, none, zero, zilch, is absolute, they all can, and are, regulated

End of argument, if it ever was one

The FACT is none of them has ever been changed. For obvious reasons. No need to try and explain the Constitution to me. My name not Obama and I am not a Democrat.

The right to keep and bear arms is the people's right to possess weapons for their own defense. It is an absolute right but the left has used the courts to misinterpret the Condtitution to limit that absolute right. They continue to do so today.

Wow. You lack even a basic understanding of the Constitution, yet you claim to try to teach others about it.

Here is a clue: The Bill of Rights is superfluous. Your right to free speech and to own a firearm exists without the 1st and 2nd Amendments.

    Yeah...the Constitution doesn't protect the AR-15 anyway.

Sure it does. It protects any hand carried weapon that the US Army has access to.

Really, does that mean the Third Amendment is still applicable?

As I said, no Constitutional right is absolute, never was, never has been, they all can be regulated

Wrong, both speech and guns are currently regulated, and if isn't the misinterpretation of the Second Amendment that guarantees the right you think you have tell us exactly where does this right come from if it is not in the Constitution?

    This should be interesting
