When universities that receive federal or state funding ban conservative speakers from their campuses and do not prevent rioting when a conservative speaker is invited and he is prevented from speaking (see The University of California, Berkeley), the free speech provision of the First Amendment has been violated.

The First Amendment guarantees freedoms concerning religion, expression, assembly, and the right to petition. It forbids Congress from both promoting one religion over others and also restricting an individual’s religious practices. It guarantees freedom of expression by prohibiting Congress from restricting the press or the rights of individuals to speak freely. It also guarantees the right of citizens to assemble peaceably and to petition their government.

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

The exact language is "Congress shall make no law". It says nothing about anyone else.

Arrested is not the metric. They prevent conservatives from speaking at the college administration level.

Free speech doesn't mean everyone gets a platform. You can say whatever you want on a college campus, and as long as you aren't threatening anyone, you won't be arrested. However, that doesn't mean said college will invite you to speak at an assembly.

Those examples are not the source of complaints. You will not be arrested because you have not violated any laws, but you may have violated school regulations and face suspension. Those regulations may include "offensive" speech, "hate speech," or other constitutionally protected speech. Fraternities have been punished or suspended for having Mexican parties that might include "stereotyped" images of Hispanics such as sombreros and kissing booths to raise money that did not allow all genders in line for a kiss.

You are not providing a platform if students hold discussions or distribute literature on campus but some colleges limit the areas where those activities can be performed.

That's understandable. People shouldn't be able to block entrances and exits, so you have to designate certain areas as ok for handing out literature. As long as they have some space, and the college doesn't discriminate based on views, it shouldn't be an issue.

Blocking entrances and exists is always a violation, but when colleges have large public plazas previously used for such activities, limiting those to much smaller areas has been done to restrict content of certain groups.

But schools are allowed to set their own policies. That's not a violation of freedom of speech.

If it is a public school they are restricted by the 1st Amendment and cannot make policies restricting constitutionally protected speech when it does not involve disruption of normal activities. Many have lost lawsuits because of unconstitutional restrictions.

Of course to some people any speech they disagree with is “racist”. And they use that attitude on campus in public areas and the classroom. Then they threaten violence and blame the speaker. Colleges used to be a place for people to be challenged and a free flow of ideas. Those days are long gone.
